Living in the same space with someone isn't always easy, but it means you will always have someone there when you need a helping hand. Roommates create a unique bond that cannot be replicated elsewhere. It is one of friendship, trust, and comfort. By spending time together, you become accustomed to one another's quirks and habits, and through it all, there are some things only your roommates understand.
1. They get and appreciate your sense of humor.
Laughing is an essential part of life, so it is important to have someone to joke around with. The greatest moment is when you finally feel comfortable enough to crack that joke you’ve been dying to say since the first week of school.
2. They accept your weirdness.
Let’s be honest, we are all have our quirks. They are what make us human. After awhile, your roommate will come to terms with the fact that your quirks are what make you, you. They may shake their head at your weirdness, but deep down, they know that they are weird too.
3. They understand you.
After spending so much time with someone, you begin to learn the ins and outs of their personality. Your roommate will develop a sort of “sixth-sense” to tell when you’re sad, angry, stressed, or just simply in need of a hug. Having someone around that understands you makes all the difference in the world when you feel as if you are isolated and alone.
As my roommates and I become closer, I am sure this list will grow rapidly. Your roommates are a different kind of friend, but in the end, you will always consider them a part of your extended family.
