Sia has made quite the buzz in past years, belting out hits with her incredibly powerful and unique voice. Maybe what isn’t as well known is how she is using dance music as a key form of expression. Sia has been working to cultivate dance into pop music in her her own unique and ground breaking way.
Behind her famous black and white wig Sia has spoken openly about her past problems, addictions, and how she used dance and music as an important outlet to relate and create conversation with the world. To some, dance might just be something to make a music video have an extra splash, but like many, Sia feels differently saying “ Dance is an expression that crosses all language barriers. If people cannot understand the words they will understand the content.”
When you watch her popular performances and music videos we associate the video's star Maddie Ziegler pulling out incredibly innovative dance techniques. With this, we are seeing an extension of Sia. Before the choreography is produced and finalized, Sia expressed that she does not want the dancer to be sexualized. In other words, she was not looking for young boys and girls to say "I have to look this way and be act this way."Instead she insisted one be weird and be their own person. She did just that and it seems that fans took a liking.
Between the
facial pulling, gorilla like dancing, and belly patting, we are offered something
fresh rather than the usual curvy hip movements. Dance falls in tandem with music for Sia, and ultimately, her voice soars when she performs her world-renowned vocal arrangements.
