“Sometimes our hearts are broken so a new light can get in.”
-Eat, Pray, Love

Maybe your heart is broken because of a guy, maybe it’s broken from the negative relationship with your family, maybe it’s broken because of a best friend, maybe it’s broken because you let yourself down, maybe it’s broken because of the death of a loved one, but whatever the reason your heart is broken, know there is a new light waiting to shine in.

Your heat is a delicate thing, regardless of how “cold or black,” you may claim it is, all hearts are delicate and pure. We are all so unique, so different in so many ways, but one way we are alike is that we have a heart and it can be broken. A broken heart is the worst thing one can go through, but it is one of the most life changing experiences one can go through.

You have this big heart, ready to love, ready to give, but what happens when it gets broken? How does it heal? We all heal differently. We all have different coping mechanisms. But, one thing that is true is that all broken hearts provide an opportunity for new light to shine in.

So, what does letting a light in your broken heart mean? To you, a new light may mean finding a soulmate, meeting a new best friend, gaining a family, loving yourself more, finding a new passion, etc. A new light means new opportunities. Take these opportunities by their reins and take off. I tell you this because new opportunities often bring joy and happiness. New opportunities often come when we least expect them. You can choose to either let this light in or shut it out. My advice to you is to let your broken heart heal.

Allow the light to consume you. Allow the light to change you and your heart for the better. If your broken heart sends you a new soulmate, then love them fiercely and never hold back. If your new light brings you a new best friend then laugh when them until you cannot breathe and appreciate the love they give you. Maybe your light sends you a new family member, cherish them for the relationship they share with you. Maybe your light brings you self-love, absorb this love with your whole being, focus on yourself, do things for yourself and do things because they make you happy. Maybe your light brings you a new passion, invest your energy and time into this passion, as it can bring you joy.

Thinking of your heartbreak as an opportunity is hard because who wants to go through a heartbreak? A heart break is exhausting, trying and challenging in so many ways. However, a heartbreak brings new opportunities and a new light that may influence you more than you could ever imagine. I’m not asking you to be grateful for your heartbreak, but I’m asking you to grow from it. Allow your heartbreak to give you a new light, a new perspective, a new form of love.

Allow this heartbreak to only shake your ground, not break you.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
