She Knew Too Much

Please try to understand-- She wasn't always like this and you did nothing wrong. You see, she was made to believe that being human made her difficult to love. She was called crazy for feeling deeply, crying, and having panic attacks--teaching her to stay on her own because overtime she had learned that letting people get too close would only lead to an inevitable ending:

Goodbyes, followed by her shortness of breath and dull stabbing pains in her chest; her holding back tears and gasping for air.

When she learned to thrive on her own, she was caught off guard-- no one warned her that this power was a double edged sword-- that being "Chill" meant feeling so detached. She found herself going through the motions of everyday life-- eyes closed, but her hands were reaching out, searching for the ability to feel again.

At the end of the day she found the bed dressed in sheets made up of 80%- nothing seriousness and 20%- cotton. She became the girl who could sleep with someone and never speak to them again because that's how relationships that begin with sex were supposed to end.

If you see her today, she walks with her head held high and her eyes straight ahead. Avoiding contact because she won't give up control of her feelings. She would rather pretend nothing happened because heartbreak is a high price for knowledge and she's not sure how much more she can afford.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
