According to Baby Center, the name Emily began making its rise to fame in the 1970s and peaked somewhere around 1997 or 1998.
I was born in 1997.
According to How Many Of Me, 341,356 people share my name.
While it is occasionally annoying to share your name with a fair percentage of classmates, there are some advantages to the name.
For example, it is always pronounced correctly. While there aren't many renditions to the name, there isn't really a concern about pronunciation with this common of a name.
However, there are multiple ways to spell it if your parents were feeling creative. Personally, mine is spelled Emily, this also tends to be the most popular, but other options are Emilie, Emmyle, Emilee, Emalie, Emelea, Emellie, etc.
Now, having the same name as so many people tends to lead to nicknames, or maybe that's just in my case, I'm usually called by my last name. This isn't the end of the world, however, my last name isn't my name. My name is not Kratzer. My name is Emily.
A comical effect of the name - when anybody yells out Emily in a crowded room, easily like six people turn their heads. At this point, I don't even bother to turn my head because 9/10 times, I'm not important enough for whatever is needed.
I couldn't help but laugh when researching some quirky facts about the meaning of my name and found a meaning behind my name that fits my personality to a tee. Bustle tells me that I am positive and assertive - a combination which can lead to occasional impulsive behavior (aka my daith piercing I got before my junior year of college), especially when she feels as though someone is trying to boss her around (aka my parents telling me I don't need any more piercings - sorry mom and dad). I also have no qualms about using sarcasm when offended in any way, which can sometimes put stress on my friendships (LITERALLY my life). I'm intense - I think my roommates eagerly attest to this one.
Bottom line, I like my name, and while everyone else has it too, I'm definitely still one of a kind.
