Why Odyssey At Washington State Is About Community
Shannon Steffen

Being a part of Odyssey gives you the opportunity to publish your voice for people everywhere to read and interact with. You are given the chance to become a part of something so much larger than yourself that would be otherwise hard to accomplish on your own. This team provides you with the resources that make your thoughts turn into articles that turn into success and conversation among students all over the country and beyond. I love that with Odyssey I know I am constantly thinking of creative ways to express my thoughts, feelings, and views on the things, little and big, that I am faced with every day.

As Editor in Chief, there has never been a week where I am not proud of the Odyssey team at Washington State University. With 27 current content creators on our team, every single article never fails to teach me something, inspire a new way of my thinking, or open my eyes to a topic I would have never considered before. Because our team is full of everyone from athletes to students involved in greek life on campus with different majors, we are constantly experiencing a range of articles covering areas from all different obstacles, trials and successes of life. I am always thankful for the wisdom and stories we can all share through this platform.

Knowing my weeks will be full of the content our team produces makes me excited for the future of Washington State students. I am confident that their potential is endless when hard work and passion is applied. Through watching content creators take risks in their pieces and establish audiences that are always growing, I have gained a whole new sense of community among my peers. I would encourage anyone with a creative mind, curious spirit, interesting or unique perspective to request a spot on the Odyssey team at Washington State. The most amazing part about being a team member is receiving the constant support and encouragement that will take you into creating pieces you would never known you were capable of.

This week a lot of the articles are inspired by relationships and things many millennials, as well as others, can find themselves relating to on a daily basis. I always find that these types of articles have their own twist when written by any content creator. Life is constantly being experienced in different ways by every human on Earth. No two people are going to have the same life-story, or even experience, that will ever be able to be told the exact same way. This week I hope you enjoy reading and appreciating every word that goes into the sharing of experiences that make our team members the individuals and writers they are today.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
