Being one of my favorite television shows that I have come across thus far, I've become very emotionally invested in these characters. It's just one of those shows that you happen to binge watch and can't stop watching and can't stop relating to, which was why this show is extremely relatable to my every day life, especially the dynamics of each of the characters. Each season takes its own plot twist, whether in terms of character development, new character introductions, or character mishaps. The following examples from each significant character definitely depict some real life relatable moments.
1. Debbie Gallagher
That time Debbie Gallagher stole a baby, everything went insane and that really changed my life. I mean, very unexpected to say the least from the innocent child in the Gallagher family, but she's one of the more dynamic characters. I feel like everyone can really relate to this one. A pivotal moment in her own character plot was when she got pregnant and she became a more mature teenager with the parental supervision and extremely meaninful help from Fiona.
Ian's one of the most dynamic characters, a twist on a coming-of-age teenager trying to find himself in a world where everyone else is a bit more normal than his bipolar self.
3. Mickey Milkovich
This badass character definitely shows his softer side as the seasons progress and his relationship with Ian escalates. His emotions are all over the place as well as his physical actions that lead him down the road to jail each time.
4. Fiona Gallagher
Fiona, the face of the Gallaghers, goes through an equal amount of hardships as the rest of the kids, yet continuously falls victim to her own pitfalls. She tries to keep the family running in tact all the time, and everyone commends her for it. Whenever I see her on TV though, I still think of her as Laura from The Day After Tomorrow.
5. Frank Gallagher
My personal favorite character of the show; Frank really embodies the image of a love-hate relationship one would have with a television character. He's not the hero, nor the villain, rather is one of the more manipulative protagonists that has quick innate ability to get his way every time; he's a brilliant guy and very underrated on his intelligence and wit.
6. Carl Gallagher
The Gallagher that really glo'd up extremely well. He's always trying to stir up some harmful mishap in the household and no one really took him seriously-- until he went to juvy and everyone really took him seriously. His try-to-be badass persona still makes me laugh all the time, it's so cute. He's harmless and means well, and still really cares for Frank even when the others don't as much.
7. Veronica Fisher and Kevin Ball
The dynamic duo that goes through their own issues at times, but are true constants in Fiona and the rest of the Gallagher's lives. Their advice that gets the Gallagher's through some hardships is what true neighbors from the South Side of Chicago really need in their daily lives.
On a deeper note, Shameless does a really good job at portraying the inner goals of self-fulfilling prophecies. It clearly defines the raw emotion and real interpersonal relationships that prominently exist in society today. It really is one of the best shows on television and deserves all of the awards.
