Bloomington, IN: Greeks get together for totally lame orgy, only two females attend.
As fantastic of an idea it may have seemed at the time, the boys in ATO could not keep it under wraps. But of course, who would be able to keep that kind of secret from the public? From the Bible, to ancient Rome and Greece, to the weird shit that went down in Henry VIII’s castles where estimates of around 22 illegitimate children were fathered, there really isn’t anything that’s never been done or heard of before.
This particular moment could have been an opportunity for some frat guys to at least be original but then again, have you ever heard of Bacchanalia? Essentially, this event was a “fertility festival” in ancient Rome where participants had sex with as many people as possible. Those who gathered would supposedly dance until overcome with euphoria and subsequently start f**king anything that moved. My roommate actually went to one of these recently. It was somewhere on Jordan Avenue and her toga was a real bitch to make. Also, I'm not entirely sure if everyone got laid... see what I mean? These kids are like 2,000 years late. Their sex party ideas have already been taken so at this point they're totally swagger-jacking Tiberius, Nero, or Elagabalus to name a few.
I will say however, that there is one big difference here, people were for the most part unperturbed by freer expressions of sex and sexuality back in the day like when Messalina, the wife of Claudius Cesar, had an orgy contest and got it in 25 times in a row. I mean, at least back then the worst of the issue would be people finding out about it and wondering why they didn’t get the invite to Cesar's palace.
More on that later, but for now, the school has taken action against the fraternity and although the chapter is officially closed and an investigation will not happen, many around campus appear to be hot and bothered. One freshman who just took the G101 midterm expressed "extreme discomfort" at the fact that the strippers were not given a "human face" as she described that "by simply referring to them as associated with a larger group of people from our subculture, we fail to recognize that behind the rose and skull thigh tattoo is a real human."
The letters on the former ATO house have been removed but what many are not talking about is a very serious refugee crisis that will hit the Bloomington off-campus community. Starting in the spring semester dozens of former ATO live-in members will be forced to negotiate a semester lease with Tenth and College or some group of girls who are going to Florence.
