Seven Powerful Quotes from 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower' that are Life Changing

These quotes opened my mind to somethings over the hundreds of times I watched this movie. Here’s my thoughts on what they mean:

1. "He's a wallflower. You see things. And you keep quiet about them and you understand."

Growing up there are some things you see that you just absorb, that silently teach you lessons that you hold on to. And sometimes these secrets, these lessons create bonds with people that are just inexplicable and unbreakable, and I think this is exactly what they were going for when they said this.

2. "We accept the love we think we deserve"

I have actually heard this quote a thousand times going through High School but I never understood it until I saw this movie. We choose to have relationships with the people that are mentally abusive, angry at us all the time, or the ones who never really show us they care, because they’re the only ones we think will ever generally accept us for who we are, and we think we’ll never find better. We accept this “love” because we only remember our own flaws and mess-ups and think those relations are truly all we deserve. False

3. "So this is my life. And I want you to know that I am both happy and sad and I'm still trying to figure out how that could be".

I don’t think there is a greater summation of our lives as humans from age 13 – 25 than this, right, here! I Literally don’t think there is Any way I can elaborate on this more than ‘Goddammit Mary Elizabeth, I think you just spoke for all of our young generations, Brava!’

4. "Come on, let’s go be Psychos together".

When Sam accepts Charlie back and she says this, my heart explodes. Because this is the kind of ride or die friendship that most people only dream of, or that you only come across once in a lifetime. This phrase just summarizes how when everything else in your world is falling apart, and you seem like you’re losing all control. You know as long as you have that one person to smile through it with, you can make it to the light at the need of that tunnel.

5. "This moment will just be another story someday"

Everything feels so real, so permanent and so So painful right now. But it’s not. Someday it’ll be just another story for your children. Remember that when you feel lost and hopeless. This is now, but this is not forever.

6. "And in that moment, I swear we were Infinite"

Those long nights with friends when the moon is clear in the sky, and its dead silent, except for the light breeze and the music of your effervescent laughter.

Those moments when you realize you’re in the prime of your life, with the people that have been with you through it all, and you just have the unknown ahead of you. But none of that matters. Cause for right now, all that matters, all that you feel, is the joy of those faces right in front of you, and the chaos of freedom as you’re burning the night oil.

That’s what this quote is if you couldn’t picture it.

7. “And I guess I realized at that moment that I really did love her. Because there was nothing to gain, and that didn't matter.”

This quote to me is so real, because it’s when you realize you’re f*cked. The moment every guy realizes he is no longer in control of his own reality, because if she is happy, so are you. If she is hurting, so are you. You gave your heart to someone and didn’t even realize it, and now you are hopelessly and indefinitely intertwined with their fate. Hold on for the roller coaster and pray the end of it is you and the person you love growing old together, telling the story to your kids.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
