Have you ever thought about how your clothes were made or where they came from? Probably not, but you should probably start. Serengetee is a company that was formed by two young men who developed a passion for helping the artisans all over the world. Artisans are people who have skills in making things by hand. These two men, Jeff and Ryan, met when they were studying abroad in college and both knew that they needed to do something to help the artisans they were encountering in different countries.
So then they made the decision that they were going to have the artisans from all over the world make fabrics that they could then sew onto their shirts that are made in the United States and sell them back to the rest of the world. When the shirts are sold, they give some of the profit back to those artisans that are making the beautiful patterns. It is a wonderful way for those people to get their talents out to the rest of the world and feel like they are making a difference in other people’s lives.
I heard about this company from my friend, Sierra. She is a representative for them and I just think that the whole process is so cool. These men and their company are supporting people that they barely know or might not even know at all. They formed a whole clothing company about the fabrics they are using. That is passion and talent right there.
These men purchase fabric from 25 countries in the world, including those in Africa, Asia and Central America. Each and every fabric is made completely by hand from these talented individuals. I actually just ordered one that is being made with a fabric that was hand made in France. I am excited to get it and use it to start conversations with others when I wear it. Each and every fabric has its own story. The one from France that I ordered is to support human trafficking in Europe, but there are others that help provide medical care to women, builds schools for kids all over the world, build sustainable communities, and so much more.
I think that what Jeff and Ryan started is a great thing that needs to become well known. Serengetee should be a company that everyone in the world hears about because it is one that is bringing us all together. It is showing America that there are other people in other countries that are talented and have things to offer too. There are so many needs all over the world and this company is working to lessen those needs and make unique and wonderful clothing along the way.
