Seperation Anxiety When Your Best Friend Studies Abroad

Adventures are out there. It seems studying abroad is becoming more and more popular which creates an almost limitless itinerary for a person with an adventurous soul. Traveling abroad is a once in a lifetime experience and I have yet to come across someone who regrets their time spent abroad, regardless of the pretty penny that it costs. The truth is, you can never put a price on an adventure that shows you the world, helps you become a better person, and creates friendships of a lifetime. It is truly something special. But when your best friend signs up for a semester abroad, a slight fear of being away from them for months makes you frown a bit, only from the fact that you physically will not be able to share it with them. But, as any friend knows, you want them to have the best time ever whether they go down under, across the pond, to the jungles of South America, or to the southern tip of Africa. Seeing your best friend board a plane headed thousands of miles away causes a few thoughts to go through your head.

1. Will I be able to text her?

2. Does snapchat work over there?

3. What if she loses her phone and I can’t contact her?

4. Who’s going to burn down the kitchen with me while we cook dinner?

5. Should I buy a $1,400 plane ticket to go surprise her?

6. Is she going to bring me something cool back?

7. Should I tell her to bring me something cool back?

8. Who am I kidding? She’s going to bring me back the coolest thing in the country.

9. What if she forgets how to speak English?

10. What if she comes back with an accent?

11. Now I have to suffer hangovers alone.

12. Who am I going to order pizzas with at 2:30am?

13. And eat it at 3:00 am with deep talks?

14. What if she doesn’t come back?

15. What if she comes back with a new best friend?

16. What if she forgets about me?

17. *Sets date/time/second plane will land back in the states on phone*

18. I hope she has the time of her life!

19. I know she will!

20. Without me….

21. But I can’t wait for her to come back and tell me everything!
