Senioritis Described By 'Parks And Rec'
LATimes

Spring has sprung, the birds are chirping and the weather is starting to get warmer. You can't wait to take hikes with your friends, go to the beach and... wait, what was that? You want me to what? Write an essay? Study for a forensics quiz? I physically do not think I can do that. After all, I am a second-semester senior, and senioritis has hit me hard. As I struggle through these last months of school, I can tell that most of my 2016 classmates would agree that high school is ending — and so is our will to work. Here are 10 struggles of high school seniors with senioritis described perfectly by the cast of "Parks and Recreation."

1. When teachers try and make you do pointless worksheets:

I mean, do I really need to write a paper comparing Shakespeare and Sophocles?

2. When you're forced to present a project and no one in your group is prepared:

In your senior year of high school, you become very good at winging projects.

3. When you start to realize how expensive senior year is:

Between paying for senior prom and affording senior week, you are faced with the decision of spending your money or saving it. But in the end, you always "treat yo self."

4. When you're a first-semester senior and you tell yourself you're going to try your best:

You started out strong for your first month! But we all know how downhill it's been since then.

5. When you are low-key stressed out:

It's senior year and you feel like you shouldn't be stressed out, but you are. Sometimes, you just need a little pick me up (and who better to motivate you than yourself?)

6. When you're failing a class:

Sure, you've never studied for a single test and you haven't handed in one homework assignment, but come on? Failing? How is that possible?

7. Realizing in a few months you're going to be on your own:

Wait, how do you work a washer and dryer?

8. When the teacher calls on you, expecting an answer:

Not only have you not been paying attention this whole class period, you haven't been paying attention all year.

9. When you look at your attendance and see you've only missed six days this month:

It could be worse! You could've just dropped out.

10. When you realize your senior year is coming to an end:

When you can't tell if you're screaming because you are so happy that high school is ending or because you're nervous for what the future will hold.

So seniors, don't worry. We only have a few more months of high school before this craziness is over. I hope we all can pull together and remember how to study, read a book and not fall asleep during AP macro when we start college in the fall.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
