An Open Letter To My Senior Best Friend

For my favorite graduating senior.

An Open Letter To My Senior Best Friend

I know that February is the month where your senioritis is seriously setting in. I remember my senior rut and how awful it was (you saw it happening) but before you know it, you'll be on a plane to Disney for senior trip and not long after you're walking through your graduation. The school musical will be closing, and everything will slowly come to a close. Despite all of these, I am here and always will be. High school may not be there forever but the friends that you make there will always stick and I learned that from you.

Maybe this week in particular is kind of long, but before you know it, the high school experience will all be gone. Summer will pass and college will creep up meaning our long distance will grow as you choose your new school. I know you hate me for saying this but you're growing older, but always remember, I'm still going to be older than you will ever be. You've been there for me for when I moved to a new state while switching around my whole life and now I'm going to be there for you.

You are absolutely my person.

No matter what, you'll be my goofball who knows every small, creepy fact about me. From all of our inside jokes to our random trips with the spontaneous decisions, we have created so many great memories at the least expecting moments. The world doesn't change too much from a public high school, so learn all you can while you're still there. Not just in class, but from the people you're around every day.

Take in what the English teachers and the History teachers tell you because they're not always teaching you the subjects, they're teaching you how to survive college. You've come so far from when we first met, it's time for you to see the world in all its glory. While this is all just another milestone in life, I'm ready to be there with you through every step. Whether we're skipping, walking, or sprinting for our lives, we're in this trip together. Today, tomorrow and forever, you're my best friend.

And so, here's to you and here's to me. Summer 2016, get ready to take on two college girls ripping apart the beach and taking on the world together.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
