To My Selfless Best Friend
Greg Raines

To my best friend,

Hi! You know who you are! I am writing this to thank you for being you, but most importantly for being my rock. Without you in my life, I wouldn't be the same person I am today. You have guided me through my ups and my downs, no matter how annoying I could be, you still deal with me and I thank you for that.

I may not be able to fully cover everything you have done for me in just these few words, but it is worth a try, so here you go!

Thank you for listening to me ramble on for hours about the most irrational topic possible and no matter how crazy I may sound you still decide to listen with an open ear. Your open ear for the time we have been so close is what allows me not to go insane at times because if you know me, you know I can't keep my emotions to myself.

Instead of being a friend who just listens to me and nods yes, you don't. As my best friend, you take what I tell you and voice your opinion, no matter how harsh it may be, because at the end of the day your feelings are mutual.

Not only do you, my best friend, have an open ear but you guide me into making the right decisions, on a daily basis. Trust me, I know my decisions are not always the best but with the help of you, I can confidently make a decision that I wasn't so sure on before.

Thank you for adding to my food addiction and loving food as much as I love it. I never thought I would see the day where someone would love something as much as I did so thank you for joining me, three times a day (including family dinners), just to eat some delicious food. Seriously, I am not sure who else I could fathom to see three times a day and not be bored of.

Thank you for motivating me to be the best version of myself, even if you are having a low day. Times can get the best of us, but at the end of the day we have each other and I know that we both are ready with a plan of action, the second something goes wrong.

Thank you for being the first person to come to my rescue in times of need. Whether it's to help me hang a picture on my wall or being my shoulder to cry on, you have always been there for me.

Thank you for being my number one cheerleader and fan. You truly are the most selfless person I know. You have supported me in every endeavor I tend to take on. You have shown up at events without me even asking. And with that, I show an abundance of gratitude toward you.

Thank you for being my best friend, my partner in crime, and my go-to person. You, my friend, hold a special place in my heart that would take a lot of replacing to do. And with that, I love you more than you will ever know.

XOXO,

Your best friend

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
