Self-Conscious About Yourself

Being different isn't bad, but why do we make it that way and make others feel ashamed of themselves?

Self-Conscious About Yourself

Now everyone who reads the title may be thinking this article is only for women to read. No, that is absolutely not the case. This article pertains to all people; no matter age, race, ethnicity, gender, etc. Why should it only pertain to women when everyone is self-conscious about something?

Have you ever looked in a mirror and sighed? What about being afraid to show your true self to people? Ever been self-conscious about your weight? How about wearing make-up to feel pretty? Well, you aren’t alone when you have these feelings. All people are self-conscious about at least one thing. Such things may be weight, acne, what they enjoy or like to wear, and multiple other things. The list just goes on and on.

Everybody has something that they are conscious about, mostly because they don’t want to be judged. Unfortunately, there is no way to stop it. Admit it, all of us, at least once has judged someone at one time or another. There’s nothing to be ashamed of because it’s true. In life, we all just need to realize that people are going to think what they want. We can’t change their minds; so why do we try so hard to do so? The reason being that we don’t want to feel as if people don’t like us. I know, some people reading this article are going to say that they don’t care what others think. Well sorry to say, but there’s always that small piece of self-consciousness that is there whether you know it or not.

For instance, women tend to be most self-conscious about their looks, especially weight. Men are too. The main reason women are more worried about their looks is because all throughout their life, all models have been thin and in splendid shape. Their bodies looked perfect and that’s what we want, what we strive for – to look like them. They are the ones who have all the hot guys, and who can wear a bikini on a beach and not have a care in the world. Although, do we truly know what they feel inside? Men care about their looks as well. They want to have abs and be muscular. They want to look like the guys on the front cover of magazines. They want to be able to have all the attractive women because they think that is what attracts women to men. Well that isn’t exactly the case. Women like muscles, don’t get us wrong. But the most important thing that we look at is what is on the inside, how caring and loving you are, and how we are treated.

It isn’t the end of the world to be different. Yes, it is a bit scary but who wants to be like everyone else just to fit in. Wouldn’t you rather be someone who is eccentric and likes to be themselves and show it than be someone who you aren’t? We all have those self-conscious things that we take into account when we want to change, but we can’t because we are scared of being judged. Be who you are, not someone that you think you should be or someone that others should like. Take those risks! Make those changes! Stay humble and remember be yourself!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
