12 Self-Care Tips For Every Stressed Out College Student

In This Article:

Self-care is extremely important, especially in the high-stress environment of college.

Start a journal.

Journaling is a great way to decompress and gather your thoughts. It's a great meditation tactic to help de-clutter thoughts and make sense of the day. It's also just effectively therapeutic.

Knit.

Knitting is one of the most relaxing activities to do. And especially with winter on its way, it's the perfect time to work on knitting a cozy scarf or sweater for the chilly season.

Take a bath.

Baths are soothing, warm and a great way to de-stress. If you're particularly in the mood, light some candles and throw in a bath bomb for extra comfort.

Play with animals.

Studies have shown that interaction with animals makes people happy and relieves stress. If you're having a particularly bad day, just go to Cat's Cradle or the puppy farm and play with adorable little creatures to brighten your day.

Write down your goals.

Feeling in control is important for many people. A good way of doing this is by writing down your goals, and what you want to accomplish in the future. This way, you have a direction to go towards, something to look forward to.

Write a blessing diary.

Oftentimes we always think of the negative things in life. Instead of this, try writing down what you're grateful for. After all, it's almost Thanksgiving - what better time to write down what you're thankful for!

Go shopping.

If you're like me, shopping is a great way to relieve stress. There's something truly therapeutic about going to the store and trying on clothes. I personally love shopping, as it gives me instant and easy gratification. It might not be healthy for your wallet, but its shoes are a girl's best friend.

Watch Netflix.

Netflix has got to be one of the go-to activities for stressed college students. It's basically a staple of our society. I love watching romantic movies, comedies, or anything light-hearted after a bad day. Although Grey's Anatomy and Gossip Girl are great choices for getting the tea.

Read a book.

Reading is one of the best solitary activities one can do. It's not only good for your brain, but it's the perfect way to relax and let yourself enter a different world - without the help of Netflix or other media. I particularly love to read fantasy and historical fiction when it gets colder out and when all I want to do is bundle up.

 Watch YouTube.

Alternatively, YouTube is another great viewing option for self-care. If you're into music, watch some music videos. If you enjoy clothing hauls, watch those. YouTube has videos for every interest imaginable.

 Go on a walk.

Studies have shown that being in nature makes one happier. If you're overwhelmed (either emotionally or academically) then going for a walk to enjoy the fresh air is a great option. I recommend either the Arboretum or the Shenandoah Mountains. Nature is a wonderful thing.

 Bake.

I, along with many people, find baking to be therapeutic and soothing. There's something satisfactory about baking, as you're creating something from scratch. The end result is also yummy and absolutely delicious.

Taking care of yourself is different for everyone. Yet — it's an important thing to remember to do in college.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
