5 Ways To Destress When Life Gets To Be Too Much

Everyone has those days or weeks when you think you are gonna crash at any minute. Here are some tips to bring your stress levels down and calm to your life.

Whether you are a college student struggling to balance your social life and studies or a busy mom chasing around your kids, you've had moments when it seems as though nothing is going right. Everything just seems to be too much.

The laundry is piling up, and you are pretty sure you just washed those towels two days ago.

"A test? Didn't we just have one of those last week?"

Your favorite store is having a sale, but you know you'd be crazy to step away from your studies.

We all get it. We've been there.

Life is a crazy, busy mess sometimes, but self-care is just as important as all of those items on your long to-do list. I know it sounds counterintuitive to stop your productivity, but take a moment for yourself to get away from the chaos and take care of you.

1. Relax in a warm bath

Even if you are already clean, relaxing in tub of warm, bubbly water can seem to literally wash away the stress on your shoulders. My favorite way to unwind from a crazy day is to fill up my bathtub with soapy water, set up my laptop so I can watch an episode of New Girl or listen to my favorite music, and drop a fizzy, essential oil infused bath bomb inside.

After I have got the most out of my bath experience, I finish it off with a sweet smelling, moisturizing lotion. This is a classic way to relieve the stress of any scenario.

2. Enjoy your favorite treat

Go to your favorite ice cream shop and try a new flavor. Pay the extra money for that fancy latte you have been wanting. If you like to cook, whip up a bath of cookies or brownies.

Maybe you have been needing a pedicure for months-go for it!

You've been working hard; it's time to treat you!

3. Watch a favorite show or movie

Curling up with a blanket on the couch to watch a classic episode of Friends or Grey's Anatomy is my happy place. Sure I have 15 articles to read, but sometimes a single episode can transform my attitude.

Pick a movie or television episode that makes you happy. Don't go for the stressful episode that has you biting your nails the entire time. Find one that makes you smile, laugh or feel nostalgic.

4. Pamper yourself

Walmart has a plethora of face masks that are so relaxing. Even wearing one for 10 minutes makes me feel refreshed and ready to get back to work.

If face masks are not your thing, try out a new nail polish on your toes. Whatever makes you feel pampered, do it!

5. Dance it out

This tip is inspired by Meredith Grey and Cristina Yang from Grey's Anatomy. Their solution to when they get the "dark and twisties" is to turn on their favorite music and "dance it out."

My roommate and I have personally tested this out, and it actually helps!! Hearing our favorite songs and doing silly dances sends us into laughter.

Laughter is medicine for the soul, as the Bible says.

No matter which method of self-care you choose, even if it is something not on this list, you are sure to be able to return to your crazy busy life with a feeling of peace. Don't forget how important taking time for yourself is!

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
