You've always wanted to know a few secrets about the fast-food industry. For years you've been wondering, how does the cashier know I'm at the drive thru speaker? Is the shake machine REALLY broken? What's up with the ridiculous outfits? Well, now you might have some of your questions answered... along with some helpful tips. Now that I'm working at Burger King, you have the inside scoop on some industry ~secrets~. (No promises that they are extra JuIcY) None of these secrets include us spitting in our customer's food or purposely up charging some customers (although sometimes I really wanted to)
1. "The shake machine is down"
Perhaps the biggest lie in the industry. What this really means is that we employees don’t really want to go through the process of making a shake and then cleaning up the mess afterwards. While this might not be good for sales, it sure does save us time :)
2. "We are making that fresh"
Of course all of our sandwiches are made from scratch. However, when we say "we are cooking that chicken/burger fresh" what we REALLY mean is that we are dropping some frozen chicken into 400 degree oil. Don’t kid yourself. Did you really think we were grilling those chicken patties outback?
3. All of our vegetables are cut the morning of and they are never frozen. (WHAT)
Every morning at 5am our managers slice tomatoes, lettuce and onions fresh for the day. So MAYBE that can be a reassuring thought while you eat that triple whopper with cheese.
4. Be nice to the cashier (this could help you in the long run)
Being nice always goes a long way. But it especially goes a long way at the BK Lounge. If you treat our cashiers well, you might be receiving a large fry even though you ordered a medium. Or instead of a 10 piece nugget? An 11 piece!
5. Drive thru head phones
Before working at Burger King I never knew how the cashier at the drive thru knew a car was there. NOW I know that each head set it connected to the speaker outside. Whenever a car roles up, the car sets off an alarm in our headset letting us know a customer is waiting.
6. IF you have kids, it's cheaper to order off the value meal than ordering a kids meal.
A kids meal is roughly $6, but you can get a cheeseburger and value fries off the value meal for less than $4. #savingcash
7. Take the survey on the back of your receipt
Hey, it may be a pain in the butt, you can get a lot of discounted/free items if you complete the survey.
8. Ask for little ice
Little ice = more beverage = more bang for your buck
9. If you get a shake, don't ask for whip cream
Whip cream takes up space, which means you don't get as much shake. SO, ask for no whip cream, that we have to fill it to the tippy top.
10. Don't order a bottle of water.
Just ask for a large cup of water. It's for free and you get more water than you would have if you had ordered a bottle of water.
11. What does the employee polo really mean?
If you look closely enough you will soon realize its a burger. #mindblown
