What in the World Makes You Mad?

Secret to Confronting The Common Fear Among Millions
Elina Palmroth-Leino

Millions agree the future is terrifying. Figuring out your “path”, your career, your destiny is one of the most intimidating ideas on the planet. Where do you even start? All I know is what I once was told, and I will share this with you. Think about the things in the way the world functions, what about it makes you mad? The answer to that question is your passion. Once you answer this question and know your passion, you are one step closer to deciding which path works best for yourself. My answer to this daunting question is the lack of truly relatable motivation in the world. I value every person's story on this planet. Everyone is their own protagonist. I believe that it is inside these stories that real motivation can be found. These stories are everywhere, but most medias would rather air cat videos or Donald Trump. This is the way the world works, and that makes me mad.

The funny thing is though, I have no idea how to make this happen. I have wanted to be a novelist, a photographer, a journalist, and most recently an announcer on the radio. I have wanted my voice to be the thing people hear on their morning commute. I have wanted to find real stories from real people that are inspirational. Not a story on the next piece of gossip on the internet. I wanted to present the news that will brighten people's days, not darken it. People tell me these stories are not real news. Although I do not agree, even if it were true I do not care. All I have wanted was to change the way people saw the news. People avoid daily broadcasts and news headlines, because what it has to say only worsens their moods, and outlooks. I want to change that, but I have no idea how.

I could tell you in the Fall of 2018 I will be transferring to a four-year university to get my Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, but if you were to ask me my end goal, I would tell you I have no clue. All I know is the answer to the daunting question of what makes me mad.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
