Recently SeaWorld released this video:
Over the last few years, there has been a plentiful amount of controversy at SeaWorld and their poor treatment towards "their" Orcas.
Personally, I've always been firmly against SeaWorld and what they stood for. The idea of capturing such beautiful creatures from their natural habitat and placing them in such small, confined tanks, churns my stomach. To be held captive and forced to be trained to become performance animals is highly unsettling. What's even more unsettling? Millions support such a business and find great joy and entertainment with the forceful performances. Of course, you get those who have seen the stomach turning, "Blackfish," a documentary that exposes the million dollar business and discusses how SeaWorld is everything but beneficial to the Orca's -- and, yet, there are still non-believers.
Here's what I find wrong with the video:
Within the video they dish about their "world class care", yet --
I can't seem to wrap my head around the fact that they take great pride in what they do to these animals, and act as if they have saved these Orcas from harm's way and "rescue the orcas from danger," -- when in reality, it has been scientifically proven they have the ability to live up to as much a 100 years, as opposed to what SeaWorld feeds their audience, which they state is up to 30 years. To be removed from your natural habitat and then proceed to be placed in what could be compared to a bath tub for a human, obviously these orcas become very reliant on their trainers and those who work within the facilities. In my eyes, I personally believe SeaWorld will do anything to continue their cash flow. It saddens me that the world has turned to animals for their own enjoyment, and are heartless with how this whole situation has been handled. People will be hard-headed regardless, but nonetheless, it is still a small step on stopping their harsh ways.
