Don't Scroll Passed That Quote

You never know what quote you could be missing out on that might change your life.

Don't Scroll Passed That Quote

Words have a way of impacting people. They can make us realize things we never had thought of. They can get us through tough times. They can even simply be an escape from the real world.

Being a twenty-something college student who is balancing (well trying to balance) school, work, a decent amount of sleep, and a social life, it is hard to fit in activities or passions that would be good for us. Reading is one of those things.

However, we live in a day and age where you don’t need to pick up a book in order to find profound and impactful messages.

(And no, I am not dismissing reading a book. If you have the time, read. I prefer a good book, even the smell of a new crisp book calms me down.)

We see quotes everyday. We see quotes with pretty backgrounds on Instagram as we scroll through lying in our beds and ignoring our alarms. We see tweets that have been retweeted thousands of times on our newsfeed everyday.

I know, not everyone is a literature and word lover like I am. I do know that we scroll right passed quotes that could change the way you view the world. We don’t take the time to read that Instagram post because it is ‘boring’ and our best friend or boyfriend didn’t post it -- so we don’t really care.

I encourage you to take the extra few seconds it takes to read that quote you scrolled past. If it says who wrote the quote, look at that too. It’s so important we continually expand our knowledge and stimulate our thoughts.

Since we are in the spirit of reading it is only fair I tell you my New Year’s resolution.

I made one of my resolutions (and really the only one I have kept) to write the same quote, somewhere and somehow everyday.

“Not everyone has the same heart as you.”

That’s it. Sometimes I write it on the top of the notes I am taking in class (oops), sometimes I text it to my friends. Other times I just write it in my planner.

This quote has helped me love and understand myself better as well as others. It also keeps me from being so disappointed when life gets a little messy or when people don’t handle situations the same way I would. Everyone is different and that is such a beautiful thing.

What quote will you see today that will change the way you see the rest of your night or even your 2017?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
