'Scream' Season 2 Episode 9 Review: 'The Orphanage'

After the exposure of Audrey's secret creates tears between friends, more questions open up about Lang's intentions for Emma. It seems that answers are popping up out of nowhere and the killer is leaving a bloody trail so everyone can follow Emma and Audrey to the truth.

1. Emma’s dilemma continued:

The killer is in her head. Everything involving Piper’s rampage may have been repressed by Emma, but now as the process repeats itself, she’s finding it harder and harder to accept reality as it comes. All of these clues with information towards the truth being followed with someone who wants answers is a problem Emma cannot yet solve. The manipulation she’s enduring is hindering her own improvement but also leads her in the direction the killer wants her to follow. It looks like if she doesn’t follow him until the big reveal then more of her friends will have to die. Do they plan on making this all about revenge on Emma or will her friends all suffer the same fate?

2. Lang and Piper:

It starts off with the mysterious tape in Emma’s locker. When played, she hears herself talking to Ms. Lang in the coffee shop right before her attack. It’s noted that she, Ms. Lang, says she needs Emma around in order to finish something. Mysterious as that is, Emma and Kieran come to the conclusion that she’s obsessed with her, but why? After attempting to visit Ms. Lang in the hospital and having her react by screaming bloody murder in both of their faces, Emma is now convinced that her accidental fall may have in fact been an attack, which she is surely right about. Kieran manages to steal the keys to Lang’s house and the two investigate. They’re both shocked when Emma discovers a photo placed upside down on the wall that reveals Piper and Lang grew up in the same orphanage as children and were clearly close friends. With this connection to Piper, it becomes obvious why she was so obsessed with Emma, to find out exactly happened between her and Piper along with many other possible questions. Did Lang merely want to understand the motives behind Piper’s rage or was she planning to bring down Emma in memory of her deceased friend?

3. Brooke and Gustavo:

As Brooke is still busy picking up the pieces of her drunken actions the night before, Gustavo continues to be hot and cold about his actions. It’s clear as day that their relationship is blooming, but Brooke’s mind is still wrapped around the fact that Jake’s gone and she’ll never know where their love could’ve went. It’s understandable that she’s not willing to jump into Gustavo’s arms just yet. Let me say though, thank you to the writers over at Scream for fulfilling our Gustavo dreams by putting in that shirtless scene in this week’s episode. As for him, he’s emotionally invested in Brooke’s well being. She wanted answers and after doing a little digging he was able to uncover some incriminating evidence on her dad. The truth is that Jake was originally suppose to be the one who burnt down Lake Wren Estates by the request of Mr. Maddox, but instead his fate was decided by the killer on that fateful night in the first episode of this season. My other theory about Gustavo is whether or not he’s involved with Emma’s storyline in any way. The two have never crossed paths much, but I’ve seen plenty of hints to determine that he’s also attempting to protect Emma as well. Right before he leave’s Brooke’s room that morning he pockets one of her lipsticks and in a later scene when Emma discovers the tape in her locker the words “PLAY ME” are see written out in lipstick. Could Gustavo be trying to subliminally tell Emma that Lang was up to no good or was that all a mere coincidence?

4. Sheriff Acosta and Maggie:

Sheriff Acosta is finally realizing that he needs Maggie on this case just as much as she needs him to solve these murders. His conscious is clogged up by the thought of his own son being behind the Brandon James mask, but now is not the time to dwell on the dark thoughts. As Maggie says, she’s dealt with this before and she knows how this game works. If the two of them want to bring a killer to justice, they have to cope with their own personal issues too. It’s disclosed to Maggie that Gustavo has also suffered some severe trauma of his own. After his mother's death he watched one of his best friends die from an accidental shooting that launched him into his gory drawings, almost as a form of closure. This along with the looming threat of a possible Brandon James return in the air, Acosta and Maggie will have to get their hands dirty in order to figure out if their secret is the one spewing blood all over Lakewood or one of their own.

5. Zoe and Noah:

Now that Noah is officially deflowered, he’s safe, right? Wrong. No one is safe in the "Scream" universe, especially your feelings. Though Noah and Zoe are all good and dandy in the sack, that doesn’t exactly correlate into being trustworthy. When Emma received the audio file of Audrey’s confession, it was sent from someone identifying as a special friend. There was a ton of speculation about where it came from and who said it, and after an argument between Audrey and Noah it turned out to be Zoe who was the number one suspect. She did admit to sending the file to herself, but swore she never sent it to Emma. It was later found out that the camera Noah had recovered from the storage unit in a previous episode was bugged so that the killer could hear all of the audio coming from his room. This explains how the killer was able to easily manipulate them all into believing Zoe was the one who sent the anonymous email.

6. Haley Meyer’s Death:

It came to no surprise that Haley might’ve had something to do with the recent slashings in Lakewood. In this episode we found out that she was intimate with the killer, whether she knew they were murdering people or not will forever be a mystery. However they did use her as a way to get close to the student body and lure Emma and her friends into traps at the killer's expense. Every good killer knows that nothing good ever good comes from working in pairs, so it was time Haley got cut! This was personally one of my favorite death scenes because of the pure comedic gold behind it. She was about to give the killer head and instead got sliced opened. Talk about a buzzkill!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
