Death waits for no man… or woman in Zoe’s case. Feeling responsible for her death, Noah requests that his friends dismantle his beloved murder board and burn the accomplice theory to smithereens. Low and behold, Emma discovers a piece of evidence that incriminates one of their own and brings them one step closer to understanding this killer's psychosis. Will their investigation lead to the truth or an untimely demise?
1. Emma and Audrey: A Final Game
This killer knows Audrey and Emma inside out. Secrets, lies, and fears aren't safe with either of them. After dealing with the aftermath of Zoe’s death and Noah’s recovery, the pair would rather put this incident behind them and support their friend. While clearing away the murder board for Noah, Emma makes a startling find. A picture within a newspaper clipping of Will Belmont’s funeral reveals Eli was in attendance all those months ago even though he had absolutely no connection to anyone in Lakewood or his own cousin Kieran. This lead in the accomplice theory leads Emma, Audrey, Kieran to scour Eli’s room where they find the letters originally sent between Piper and Audrey and all those photos of Emma as a child. Instead of turning their evidence into the police the trio decides they need to find more in order to connect Eli as the killer. Emma wonders if there could be more evidence at the pig farm so she and Audrey eventually head there. In the midst of all of this, the killer is using their internal struggles as his ultimate weapon. In the opening scene we saw the killer steal Emma’s dream journal and use it to make a disturbing video off of Noah’s podcast that makes it appear that our beloved final girls were behind all this death. You’ll read later how this affects the other teens of Lakewood. Fast forward, the final scene of the episode where Emma and Audrey find the hidden room within the house at the pig farm. There lies the dream journal with a section circled, the one used in the killers podcast video. In the middle of their search, the pair see a car pull up to the barn and it's none other than the persnickety Mr. Maddox. Let's just say their encounter gets a little forky…
2. Gustavo & Eli: Friends or foes?
Undoubtedly the creepiest individuals to inhabit Lakewood, Gustavo and Eli have had their fair share of sketchy moments throughout the season even up until the finale. This episode gave us plenty of reasons to raise a few eyebrows at the both of them and, in a way, connected a few dots about their behavior. Let's start with Gustavo, the boy who miraculously predicts the deaths of those around him. His drawings give us a mental image of what's to come and though they might not be the exact way the person dies, he seems to be fairly close each time. For instance, before the mayor was killed he was seen drawing him with a bloody face. Coincidence? It's possible, but my theory is that the killer has access to these drawings and bases some of the deaths off them to mess with Gustavo's head. Also, he seems to show up and disappear at key moments in the episodes. In this one in particular we see him leave his house right before the scene where the mayor is killed and the phone the mayor was texting inside the barn was also Gustavo's. I'm rooting for him to be innocent, but this kid seems fishy. As far as Eli goes his alibi is screaming killer. He loves to break into people's homes (which the killer does), he had Piper and Audrey's letters, and he was attending Will’s funeral when no one knew him. Even though he's extended the helping hand to Emma multiple times, his actions seem to be doing more bad than good which could possibly be driving him to kill. What possible connection could he have to Piper though? If he was in fact Piper's final surprise, what are his motives? Eli also has a tendency to show up unexpectedly, just as Gustavo does. Could the two be secretly working together?
3. Sheriff Acosta and Maggie: A Secret Buried Within
Has the worry of Brandon James resurfacing gone up in smoke? It's unclear at this point if Miguel and Maggie are wondering if their secret connection to the alleged killer is coming back to haunt them. The only snippet we saw in this episode was during the beginning scene when the killer sneaks to the Duval family home and leaves the wooden heart shape necklace on the front door's handle. Maggie mentions to Miguel that she's worried Brandon might have done it after she attempted to communicate with him. In my opinion I don't think he could personally be behind it. He's too distant from the teens and their families to know who to target and why would he go through all the trouble to hurt Emma if Maggie was the only person to show him kindness? Could he be attempting to protect her if he was in fact back in Lakewood? And or will he ultimately save the day?
4. Mayor Maddox mourning:
Mr. Maddox may have not been the most memorable or impactful character, but his death within the series sure was. Let me start off by saying that the way he was killed off was my favorite thus far. It doesn't get more brutal than a pitchfork to the chest in order to make a statement! The reason I felt some sympathy towards his slaying was only because of Brooke. The poor girl has already been through enough this season which started with the death of Jake and is now ending with the death of her only real parental figure. If anyone has it out for revenge in the coming seasons, it's that girl. My real question is what will happen to her now that her father is gone? Will she move in with Emma possibly? Lastly, with the innocent victim card being played on her end I can't help to think that it could all be a cover and Brooke is making the ultimate sacrifice to kill her own father, much like Jill Roberts did in “Scream 4.”
Killer Theories:
Eli / Gustavo
Kieran
Brooke + Gustavo
