Scooting In The Cold

Scooting In The Cold

Florida residents have a harder time than most when temperatures drop below 60 degrees, which is cold when you're used to sunny and 75 degrees for 360 days out of the year. When winter does roll around, college students who use scooters experience the harsh weather first-hand. Often, a scooter is the best type of transportation in a college town, as it quickly and easily gets students to class on time. However, when it's cold, using a scooter is a whole different story. These are the phases that one may go through while driving a scooter in the cold.

1. You realize that you have class in 15 minutes and you have to get up off the cozy couch to scoot to class in the freezing cold.

2. It's 50 degrees out, which means that it will feel like 30 degrees on your scooter.

3. Your scooter won't start because its too cold out.

4. Your scooter finally starts!

5. You feel the freezing cold wind flying past you and stinging every pore of your body.

6. You can't steer any more because your hands are totally numb.

7. You're stuck in traffic and you probably have frostbite on your face and hands.

8. People try to tell you, "It's not even that cold."

9. You look at the person in the car next to you and imagine how warm they are.

10. You see a fellow scooter drive by and you know that they're just as cold as you are.

11. You finally arrive at your class and your entire body is numb while your face is covered in tears from the frigid ride that you just took.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
