Schools Out: Scream Or Shout?

The Bitterweet Idea Of Summer Vacation

Schools Out: Scream Or Shout?

So recently I have found out that there is something bittersweet about the end of the year. I was complaining about how much I wanted to go home, start my summer, and say bye bye until next semester. Suddenly I realized, although I am eager about having fun in the sun, summer vacation also means that a couple of things.

1.If you have any senior friends, it's time to say goodbye and wish them luck.

I made a lot of friends this year with people who happened to be seniors. Many of them taught me the ins and outs of making my college experience the best and they were so nice to me. They were the reasons why I knew who to speak to, what to do, and always had someone to sit with.

2. Now it’s time to pack up all your stuff and put it in storage.

This one has to be my least favorite. I had to pack up my whole college year in a matter of days and let me tell you now; storage is not cheap. You better find a couple of friends to share the storage space with and divide the cost.

3. What are you going to do this summer?

This may not affect others like it does me but I always seem to be confused on what to do for the summer. As a college student with other college or high school student friends, you will notice that just because you are on break doesn’t mean that they are too. So I advise you to round up the troops in a group chat and find out when they are coming home. Make so many plans and keep yourself busy. For the ones who are like me, find a summer job or internship and gain some extra cash or experience. The busier the better and try to find stuff that you enjoy or have never tried, because once the semester starts it is back to business and the books.

4. You might also miss the friends who are returning to your school.

I know this was a problem for me after my summer start program. I spent six weeks and got to know forty other students. Many of us became very close and although we were ready for the program to be over so we can enjoy our summer; many of us realized that we missed each other and couldn’t wait to see one another again. It’s a little easier if they live closer to you, but if they live in another state or country that’s complicated.

5. What if I am a senior?!

I have noticed that many of the seniors at my school don’t want this journey to end. Many of them are scared now that they have to enter the real world and find a job or even go on to higher education. They are not eager for the summer vacation and will miss their schools more than ever.

Right now there are only four days left in my first year of college. It was a crazy ride but I enjoyed every minute of it. I know that everyone loves a break but don’t be too eager to finish college because those are years you will never get back and they are supposed to some of your bets ones.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
