With Halloween coming up in a few weeks, I’ve been in the mood to watch a few scary movies to get in the Halloween spirit! After some searching and hearing people’s opinions, I decided to come up with a short list of movies that may be good to watch this month! With so many movies out there, I decided to keep the list nice and short and the movies are in no particular order. I’ve added a variety of movies, from new films to classics, so I hope y’all enjoy!

#1 Halloween (1978)

This is a definite favorite of mine! If you haven’t seen this movie, then you’re probably living under a rock! This movie is about Michael Myers, a guy who’s pretty messed up. The movie starts with him at 6 years old killing his older sister and being sent away to a mental institution. Many years later, he then escapes from there on October 30th. Now a young adult, he’s on the prowl to seek out new victims. This movie is pretty simple yet absolutely brilliant in terms of its music, that brings a creepy vibe throughout the whole movie.

#2 The Conjuring (2013)

This movie is a personal favorite of mine due to the fact that it has one of my favorite actresses in it (Vera Farmiga). This movie takes places in the 1970’s, where Ed and Lorraine Warren, two popular paranormal investigators, are called to a home where the family is being tormented by supernatural occurrences. The family, consisting of Roger and Carolyn Perrin and their 5 daughters, are new residents of the house and has no idea of the history that occurred there. This movie has a good plot and definitely has a good scare factor, which is why it is one of my personal favorites.

#3 The Descent (2005)

It has been quite a while since I have seen this movie, but the one thing I do remember was how freaked out I was after watching it. This movie consists of a group of young women going to explore underground caves. The main woman, Sarah, is still recovering from an accident that killed her husband and daughter a year ago. Once inside the caves, the women are trapped and unable to get out. They soon realize that they are not alone and they must figure out a way to escape the bloodthirsty creatures that lurk in the caves. There is a lot of blood and tension in this one, so I definitely recommend watching it!

#4 High Tension (2005)

High Tension is a foreign horror film that leaves you totally blindsided at the end! This movie is about a college girl named Marie who stays the night with her friend Alex and her family. At night, a creepy man comes to the house and murders the entire family, leaving Marie and Alex to try and escape. I won’t give too many details away, but this is definitely a great movie to watch if you’re into lots of bloody violence and foreign films!

#5 Sinister (2012)

I decided to put this movie on the list because it has a good storyline and it’s not over the top. The story consists of a male writer who is desperate to write a best-selling novel since he hasn’t done so in many years. He and his family have recently moved into a new home and he discovers a series of grisly films in the attic. These films vary in years but show basically the same thing: a family being brutally murdered in unique and interesting ways. He notices a creepy figure in one of the films and decided to do more research, though he soon discovers that his own family may be the ones starring in the next creepy film.

#6 Hush (2016)

This a new movie released on Netflix a few months ago. This movie consists of a deaf writer who lives in a secluded house in the woods. As she is struggling to finish a novel one night, she becomes the target of a creepy man who will stop at nothing to make her his next victim. This movie is definitely a favorite of mine because it adds a cool twist to the plot. The fact that she is deaf plays a huge role in the film since she faces a whole new set of challenges in dealing with this killer. It’s available on Netflix, so be sure to check it out!

#7 Scream (1996)

It has been years since I have seen this film, but it’s definitely a classic to watch this month! This movie basically consists of a scary movie fanatic who goes on a killing spree. The main girl, Sidney Prescott, along with her friends and the rest of the town of Woodsboro, is being terrorized by a mysterious ghost masked figure. These events take place after the death of Sidney’s mom, who was found butchered to death. There are rules to be followed, and if these rules are broken, then your fate is at stake. Remember, everyone is a suspect!

#8 Friday the 13th (1980)

Lastly, I decided to finish off the list with another classic horror film. This one consists of a group of young adults counselors reopening Camp Crystal Lake, despite warnings from locals deeming the site a place to avoid. Death ensues shortly after as the number of camp counselors dwindles one by one.

Well, I hope y’all enjoyed this list! Halloween is coming up in a couple of weeks, so be sure to catch up on some of these scary movies to get into the Halloween spirit! What are some of your favorite scary movies? Be sure to let me know!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
