We've all heard the song "Wild Things" by Alessia Cara -- her first single. It was on the Top 100 Billboard Charts as song #50. This was the first recognition of the up and coming artist that we saw. It was about being rebellious and not caring about what other people say. Then she continues that with her next hit song, "Scars To Your Beautiful." This song is truly inspiring, especially towards young women who have troubles believing that they are truly beautiful.
So many girls have trouble believing this could possibly be true. That someone sees them as beautiful. When most girls look in the mirror they see the crooked nose, zits, not big enough eyes, small breasts, a big waist...there is no way that they can feel beautiful when they constantly judge themselves. That is what society has taught us to do -- to judge. To look at the girl next to us and think, "I wish I looked like her."
How WRONG is that?
As young women, we are supposed to lift other women up, and be positive towards them. Instead, we trash talk and we poke fun, because it's easier to pick out the problems in someone else than looking at yourself. That is why this song is so powerful. It demonstrates how we need to feel about ourselves.
This part of the song brings up how girls take out the anger on themselves. To fit into this perfect image that is supposed to be the reflection that the world sees. To be thin, like the supermodels in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. Is that realistic to try and achieve that as a goal? No. It is not because every person is built differently, so it is unrealistic to try and subject yourself to look like someone else. That is why anorexia is such a common disease in young women. This song portrays why it is important to not be like this, to be happy within yourself.
This is the life changer quote. It states that the world should change it's heart, that the world should be more accepting of every single person. This is because every person is unique. Every person has their own set of morals, their own personality, their own body type. That is nothing to be ashamed of. If anything, they should embrace the fact that they are so unique and that others want to be around that type of person. Instead, we beat ourselves up, and we do it to others too. What has this world come to? Has it really come to women body shaming and judging other women?
That is what needs to stop, and that is why this song speaks to thousands of girls out there who struggle with these issues. It is important to be aware, to learn, and to treat others how they should treat you. It is so much easier to be nice to someone then it is to be mean. Think about if you would want someone to judge what you look like. It wouldn't be very fun...so don't do it.
This can be the new revolution for women, to treat each other with respect and lift each other up. Try it one day and see how it feels. I guarantee you will feel a thousand times better.
