Saying Goodbye To My High School Friends

To the people who I swore would be my best friends forever.

Saying Goodbye To My High School Friends

To all of my friends from high school,

Saying goodbye to you was so much harder than I expected. We spent years together, and some of you I even met back in elementary school. Throughout the four years of high school, we walked the halls together every day. We talked, laughed and created so many memories. Whether we only talked in school or spent days out of school together, we created memories together.

With my freshman year of college coming to an end, I have realized it is officially time to say goodbye to some of my high school friends. The first month of college consisted of constantly texting each other every day as we all adjusted to our new lifestyles. After the first month or two, we all made new friends and became wrapped up with the college life, and this was the beginning of our goodbyes. Thanksgiving break included trying to see everyone in just those few days. With winter break approaching, we also had many more days to spend together. Instead, we chose to spend our only days away from college with our college friends and saw less and less of each other. It is finally spring break, and I'm not sure if I will even see more than three of you. Come summer, I am not sure how many of you will make time for me, and I am not sure how many of you I will make time for. Between work and all of our new friends, it's honestly hard to make time.

We all swore we would be friends forever. Senior year was our closest year, and maybe that is simply because that's all we had. When we left for college, we were introduced to a whole new world. In college, you don't always take the time to make friends in class. Instead, you are constantly introduced to thousands of new people and make friends with people every day until you have your "group". Maybe in high school, we all stayed friends because we didn't know what else was out there.

Of course, I have those couple of friends from high school whom I still keep up with and will always try to make time for, but for the most part, there are many people from high school that I thought would be my friends forever.

College doesn't change people, it just opens your eyes to what else is out there. It shows you how many amazing people are out there whom you would've never met if you'd stayed in your hometown with the same people you were forced to befriend because they were in every class with you.

As the talks get shorter and seeing each other becomes less and less, I just wanted to say goodbye.

Goodbye to my high school friends.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
