Week two of the “SAY WHAT? “ series!
So this week I was reading my Jesus Calling book, and stumbled across this gem. I had to read it a couple times because my brain tends to go off on tangents and I end up thinking about anything other than what I am trying to read. I blame college.
I find myself missing the meat of many verses. As much as I want to ask myself why this happens and why I have to reread the same verse multiple times, it is actually something to be thankful for. Each time I reread that verse I let go of the worldly thoughts that take over my mind on a daily basis and fill them with Jesus. I feel as if God is teaching me to become obedient to his word. If I had to pick a favorite professor, it would be him.
And this will take a while… I am a sinful human and fall into what the world believes is true, but good news, God is there to pick me up and bring me back to his light and teachings.
SAY WHAT?
And Jesus came and said the them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me, Go therefore and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the father and of the son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold I am with you always, to the end of the age.” – Matthew 28: 18-20
When I read, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me” it startled me for a minute. God is in control, not me. There are so many times that I have taken on a task and thought to myself I was powerful enough to get through it on my own. During this time, God is in the backseat.
No one puts God in the corner!
SAY WHAT? Yes I just referenced "Dirty Dancing."
That statement is extremely, so not in any way accurate. I put God to the side on a daily basis, thinking little me can handle this world. SO easily forgetting that the one I am scooting off to the side is in fact, the one who creative the heavens and the earth. Silly me… trying to conquer struggle alone, when the creator of this earth is there to guide me.
When I realize in the midst of me trying to go about life depending on myself, it becomes very empty and worthless.
Who am I living for? Me? The one that continually fails and feels lost?
God, the father, he is the one I am living for, because he sent his one and only son to die on the cross so WE could be forgiven of our sins. God has authority over all the heavens and the earth, so let him take you through deep waters and breathe taking mountains. Put your trust in him, because his love is indescribably greater than anything of this world.
I pray that I remind myself of this everyday, because I am distracted daily from his beauty.
God commands us to go out and share his word, so that others may be filled with this love of his.
SAY WHAT? So this isn’t just for me?
I very frequently find myself growing selfish, wanting approval of others for the spiritual acts and events I do. I was recently convicted of this, well about 30 minutes ago during church.
As disciples, we are called by our creator to proclaim his love he has freely given us. Setting my selfish desires and needs aside and placing others before my own is not easy, but we don’t have to do it alone. Living a Christ centered life comes with sacrifices, but also a gift that makes every sacrifice worth wild. God supplies us with his presence, and tells us he will never leave. WOW, is that powerful.
I am not defined by mistakes, nor do I have to face them alone, because as disciples of Christ he will always be with us, to the end of the age.
Go out and share the amazing, mind-blowing experiences God has shown you for other to witness his unconditional and everlasting love!
