We are constantly keeping our eyes out for new companies or products that we didn’t realize we wanted or needed in our lives. It’s always very exciting to find someplace new to shop. We feel the need to share it with everyone we can. I often tend to go a little bit crazy when I find a new company that I fall in love with. Here is my list of companies that you should know about and definitely should be shopping at.
1. Pura Vida Bracelets
Based out of Costa Rica, Pura Vida is my current obsession. Each bracelet they sell gives someone a job. My friends say I have a serious problem… I agree—I definitely do NOT own enough of their stuff. My favorite thing that I have from them is this awesome water bottle that just came out recently. I also happen to be a Pura Vida rep, so if you want 20 percent off (which you should), use the code livade20. All the more reason to shop!
2. Cotopaxi
Cotopaxi’s motto is “do good”. Like Pura Vida, Cotopaxi also works to make a positive impact in the lives of those living in poverty. Cotopaxi sells awesome outdoor gear like backpacks, duffel bags, jackets, sleeping bags, water bottles, and hats. All of their products are insanely cool. They also do an awesome fun run called Questival that is basically like a 24-hour scavenger hike in various cities (some friends and I are doing Questival in Chicago this year).
3. Love Your Melon
Love Your Melon is an awesome company that sells super stylish hats. The best part is that for every hat you buy, they donate a hat to a kid with cancer. They also donate 50% of their net profits to aid nonprofit partners fighting pediatric cancer. You can buy three different kinds of beanies, various baseball caps, and now mugs, shirts, and scarves.
4. Altar’d State
Altar’d State is hands down my favorite clothing store. I absolutely flipped out when I found out there was one in Chicago. Altar’d State seeks to inspire young women to look fashionable and stand out for good. They donate a portion of their profits to charity, carry several “give back” brands, and are working to support Coprodeli in their work in Peru. Cute clothes with a mission? Yes, please.
5. Outdoor Tech
Outdoor Tech works to bring together our modern technologically dependent society together with the outdoor life. They sell several different electronic goods that are able to handle the rough outdoors. From wireless ear buds, headphones, and speakers, to portable power banks of various sizes, Outdoor Tech has you covered indoors and out.
6. So Worth Loving
So Worth Loving is a fashion company that strives to remind people of two simple, yet usually forgotten things: 1. You are loved and 2. You are worth fighting for. They have a variety of t-shirts for guys and girls. They also have some jewelry and other accessories. All these remind you that you are so worth loving and they remind those around you that they are so worth loving too.
7. The Giving Keys
The Giving Keys takes old keys and repurposes them as jewelry. Each key is engraved with a word like love, brave, fearless, and believe. You can get necklaces or bracelets that come in different styles and metals. The Giving Keys makes intentional efforts to help alleviate homelessness in their business model by hiring employees looking for a second chance at life. So not only do you get a cool and unique necklace, but someone gets the opportunity to make a better life for themselves.
8. Cause Gear
Cause Gear is a company that sells wicked cool bags. One bag purchased provides a day’s worth of essentials like food, water, housing, and clothing for four people. Each bag is handmade and comes a tag telling you who made your specific bag. My favorite bag they sell is by far the urban pack, but the boyfriend shirt bags are cool too.
9. Rapha House
Rapha House is a neat organization that helps get girls out of sex trafficking in Cambodia. After the girls are rescued, they are taken to a safe house where they are helped to regain a semblance of what could be a normal life outside of sex work. One aspect of this is teaching the girls how to make things scarves to bags. Rapha House sells a huge assortment of products for everyone, with each product directly helping a girl get her life back.
10. Eden Ministries
Eden Ministries is similar to Rapha House in its mission. Based in China, Eden Ministries helps girls get back on their feet through teaching them to make jewelry. The coolest piece in their collection is the “committed necklace” It’s a round necklace, half black and half gold. There is a tiny heart cut out in the middle. This tiny cut out is what they call the “middle heart”. When someone buys a committed necklace, Eden gives a middle heart to a girl that has been trafficked, letting this girl know that there is someone out there who values her and wants her to have a better life.
11. Knockaround
Knockaround is a sunglasses company that combines fashion and affordability. They have five distinct styles for buyers to choose from, including collaborations and limited edition glasses. They also sell shirts, sweatshirts, and accessories. Recently, they added a customizing feature, allowing you to make up to 300,000 unique sunglass designs.
12. Inkkas
Inkkas provides people with some pretty sweet footwear. They’re like vans or converses, but their made from authentic textiles from Latin America. They offer five different styles: Slip on, Jogger, Low Top, High Top, and Boot. They’re high quality and come in a a set of normal and crazy patterns to fit anyone’s taste.
13. Avate Apparel
I first heard of Avate during the Wheaton College Rock Climbing Competition. I won a free shirt, so I decided to check their selection out online. Avate aims to combine reasonable prices, high-quality, and cool designs in products for rock climbers (though you don’t have to be a climber to like their stuff). They have cool looking shirts for both men and women. They also sell lots of different colored beanies and some sweet chalk bags.
Now that you have an expanded list of companies you should definitely be shopping from, it’s time to go get some sweet new stuff! Not only these companies cool, most of them support wonderful causes as well. You’re buying things that are good for you and good for others. The only thing you need know is money. But I’m afraid I can’t help you with that.
