On 1/10/2018, my boyfriend, his parents, and I hopped on a train and traveled to New York for an experience of a lifetime. We saw the new musical, "Hamilton," written by Lin-Manuel Miranda. I had no true idea of what to expect because everything I've heard about it was unreal.
Could a musical really be this wonderful? "Hamilton," was nominated for a record-breaking 16 Tony awards, and won 11 of them. Two of my sisters had been very interested in the show, with one already seeing it last year, and the other singing it practically every day. Since many people around me were enamored with this piece of art, I found myself being patient with it.
I didn't go out of my way to listen to the show or watch clips because once I found out that I was actually going to be seeing it, I wanted to have a completely clean slate going in. Boy, was I amazed.
The sheer artistry of the piece was mind-blowing. The choreography was impeccable, each movement of the body carrying the momentum of each passing moment forward and forward. Everything flowed together so seamlessly it was hard to believe that these actors were actually real people.
The music, help me Lord above, made me utterly sob by the end of the show. It was as if every single line sung or spoken released a cathartic sigh from my heart and I felt completely in awe every time something new happened in front of my eyes.
The story telling itself was exemplary, each actor placing in their own puzzle piece into the world of the musical, and each new finding was woven intricately into the story.
I cannot believe I had a chance to see this musical, it was an experience of a lifetime.
