As October approaches an end, the holidays theater season begins. This November-December season is stocked with good movie premiers, ranging from trilogies, to dramas, to big blockbusters. Take a look at what is in store, and save the date!
1. "The Martian" - Oct. 2
Hurry to theaters to catch Matt Damon in "The Martian." Though already released, the star quality and amazing story was worth making the list of must-see movies this month. I would highly recommend it, as it is my personal favorite of the recent string of space/astronaut movies.
2."Bridge of Spies" - Oct. 4
Also already released is Tom Hanks, Cold War drama "Bridge of Spies." Make sure to tune in and see another incredible performance by Hanks, as he negotiates a Soviet spy trade.
3. "Spectre" - Nov. 6
It's the new James Bond movie, so needless to say, go see it. If it is as good as the last three, you will surely be on the edge of your seat the whole time.
4. "Spotlight" - Nov. 6
"Spotlight" is a gripping adaptation of when The Boston Globe's broke the shocking sex abuse scandals within the Catholic Church. The movie is stocked full of acclaimed actors including, but not limited to Mark Ruffalo, Liev Schreiber, Rachel McAdams, Stanley Tucci and Michael Keaton. It is definitely a movie to keep on your radar.
5. "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2" - Nov. 20
The final installment of The Hunger Games trilogy rolls in to theaters just in time for Thanksgiving. Sit off your food coma in the theater and bare witness to the end of an era.
6. "Macbeth" - Dec. 4
For all the lovers of the classics or attractive British actors, keep an eye out for the new adaptation of Macbeth this season, starring the incredible Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard.
7. "The Big Short" - Dec. 11
A powerhouse cast comes together in "The Big Short" to tell the story of a group of men who predicted the housing bubble and bet against the U.S. economy to make millions. The movie, based on a true story, is one of the first big screen storytellings of the financial crisis.
8." Star Wars: The Force Awakens" - Dec. 18
The movie I have been waiting for since the last installment in 2005 is finally coming this year! If you are not already, get excited for the new Star Wars movie, a sequel to Star Wars: The Return of the Jedi.
9. "Sisters" - Dec. 18
The queens of comedy, Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, star on the silver screen together for the first time since "Baby Mama" in 2008, this time playing sisters who try and have one more wild teen-inspired night at their childhood home.
10. "The Hateful Eight" - Dec. 25
For those who like action and great script-writing (and who can handle more than a little goriness), check out "The Hateful Eight," Quentin Tarantino's 8th movie, coming to theaters this Christmas Day. The movie tells the story of eight bounty hunters in post-Civil War Wyoming who all find themselves under one roof. In similar fashion to other Tarantino films (Django Unchained, Inglorious Bastards, Reservoir Dogs) viewers should expect intense plot lines, betrayal, and certainly some blood.
11. "Joy" - Dec. 25
From the people who brought you "American Hustle" and "Silver Linings Playbook" comes this Holiday's anticipated new Jennifer-Bradley movie combo, "Joy." Similar to "Silver Linings Playbook" the movie tells the story of ordinary people in an extraordinary way. Jennifer Lawrence's performance is highly anticipated and a must-see this Christmas season.
Have no plans this Friday night? The next one or the next one? Never fear, because all these movies are coming your way and are certainly worth a trip to the theaters.
