Santa's Coming! I know Him!

December has finally arrived. And you know what that means! The start of 25 days of Christmas on Freeform is now airing, featuring our favorite Christmas movies of all time. Everywhere we go, we are bound to be reminded that Christmas is right around the corner. Nearly every store we walk into is showcasing Christmas trees, stocking stuffers, and blaring some of our favorite, classical Christmas songs through the mikes for all to hear. Not only are we all indulging in the Christmas spirit from our exposure to decked out Christmas themed stores, but even better, various tv stations are playing our favorite Christmas movies 24/7! While The Polar Express, A Christmas Story, and Home Alone are hands down three of the greatest Christmas movies of all time, there is one movie we've all watched more times than we can count that we can all agree goes above and beyond the rest; Elf! Read further, and you will understand why this charming and instant classic can even put a Scrooge in the Christmas spirit!

1. "Santa? Is that you?"

No matter how old you are, Buddy the Elf makes it apparent that it is totally okay to get excited over seeing Santa at the mall. And if we don't openly show our excitement, it is a given that we are holding it all inside.

2. When Buddy sets out to conquer his journey from the North Pole to New York City

Buddy's adventure from the North Pole to New York gives all of us the motivation to exercise before we stuff our faces in the traditional five course meal on Christmas day and proceed with devouring an assortment of cookies for desert. I mean come on, if Buddy can do it, so can we! And if you get lost, just remember, pass through the seven levels of Candy Cane forest, cross the sea of swirly twirly gum drops, and arrive at the Lincoln Tunnel.

3. Buddy teaches us that it is okay to eat like a pregnant woman

Buddy not only reminds us that inhaling food during the holidays is acceptable, he also gives us a little lesson of the four major food groups; candy, candy canes, candy corns, and syrup! And you can't lie, after watching Elf, we have all asked for syrup and the four major food groups of candies to be included in our meals.

4. A friendly reminder that the best way to spread christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear

I mean, come on, singing Christmas songs puts us all in the Christmas spirit! Nothing gets us up and out of our seats more than our favorite Christmas songs playing on all our most listened to radio stations!

5. Living on the edge and having a little fun during the holiday is a must

The christmas holiday is an excuse to act like a four year old again and skip the white lines of the sidewalk to avoid the hot lava! Even if you are a grown, 6'3'' human elf, playing in the streets and revisiting childhood is acceptable every once in a while.

6. When you are feeling down, always remember to turn that frown upside down

Buddy the Elf says and does it best! The Christmas holiday is a time to gather with friends and family and escape from reality for awhile. To do so, we must focus on the positives and smile, putting all other frustration aside!

7. Christmas is more than just receiving gifts

Although we may not reinforce our appreciation and love for our parents quite as much as Buddy the elf, his constant desire for love and affection is a reminder to us that Christmas is more than just the excitement of receiving gifts we've been longing for all year. We are reminded of the greater meaning of the holiday. It is the most perfect time of year to remind your parents that you love them.

8. Everyone loves a little romance

What is a Christmas movie without a little love and affection?

9. Looks can be deceiving. If we don't have something nice to say, just, for the love of god, don't say anything

Buddy learned this lesson the hard way! His false accusations of his dad's coworker resulted in a punch to the wall. If we don't have something nice to say, I think it is safe to say keeping negative thoughts to ourselves is the better route to take.

10. Most importantly, everyone needs a little laugh!

This is a humorous life lesson that everyone learns from Buddy the Elf. There are so many accessible buttons in the elevator, and every single one is meant to be touched, even if the person on the elevator with you doesn't think so.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
