Let's be honest, the best part about Thanksgiving is getting to eat until you're more than stuffed. The worst part for a lot of people is having to sit at the dinner table and talk with family about politics, school, and relationships. Most college students are over these conversations. If you're worried about what questions or topics your family will bring up this holiday, try changing the conversation to one of these safe topics instead.

1. Most recent movie you've seen

Talk about the last movie you saw, or ask other people what they've seen recently or want to go see. Everyone can talk about something they're interested in since there are always new movies, there are a plethora of genres, and everyone has a favorite movie.

2. Best TV show

Similar to talking about movies, talk about what TV shows you're watching. College students live off their netflix binges, so this will be no problem for them. It's also interesting to see what each generation at the table is into.

3. What people are wearing

Compliment your family members on their earrings, tie, or new shoes. It's something safe and simple, and can make someone smile. This most likely won't result in a long conversation, but at least you'll feel at ease for a little bit. This could also be a good way to drop some hints about clothes you want for Christmas.

4. Adult things

Everyone has some adult problem to talk about, like the fridge not working, or having to buy a new lamp because the cat knocked the old one over. This gives people a chance to complain without ranting for hours on end.

5. Random questions

My family likes to play a game every holiday we're together where we ask questions like, "If Mom was a traffic sign, what would she be?" Take turns having each person at the table ask a question about the person next to them. This can definitely lead into some fun conversations.

6. What you're thankful for

It's called Thanksgiving for a reason. Go around the table and say one thing you're genuinely thankful for.

7. Food

Again, the best part about Thanksgiving is the food. Just talk about how great the mashed potatoes are. If someone so happens to ask you something you don't want to answer, just keep shoveling food into your mouth. After all, it's rude to talk with your mouth full. Or just do this:

Happy Thanksgiving!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
