I have only been doing this for a little while, so I am no expert at all. But I feel like these are important to know in the first few weeks of a new business. Here's what I’ve noticed so far…
1. Just because you can make your own hours, doesn’t mean you can abuse it.
You might have some leniency on your hours, but you shouldn’t just sleep all day and work all night. You have to work and post when there are actually a good amount of people online to talk to and interact with. If people don’t see your posts, or if you message them at 2am during the week, you might not get the response you want.
2. There has to be the perfect balance to your posts.
Your profile can’t just be a spam of your business or products. You need to show that you’re a person, not a billboard. Finding the formula of when to do certain posts is more difficult than I imagined.
3. Close friends and family might ignore you…
…Or just don’t want to talk to you. Try not to take it personally. Maybe you just need to approach them differently or maybe they just aren’t going to be supportive. Honestly, people usually don’t know how to respectfully decline, and that is perfectly fine.
4. It will be a lot harder than you expected.
It’s not as simple as putting up a post and people getting instantly as excited about your business as you are. Many people might not even want to interact with your business posts at all, but that’s why you need to make sure to try and keep a personal touch to it.
5. It might be hard, but you can’t stop believing in yourself.
I have to remind myself of this every single day. It is hard when you are getting started and not many people seem interested that you’re doing something new. But I do know that it will get better, and I will become more skilled and figure out the perfect way to be successful. I’m excited to see where this venture takes me, I’m excited for my future.
