A long time ago, I decided I would not have any kids. No particular reason other than that I feel I operate best on my own. One woman band. Like Beyonce's latest single. "Solo ride until I die." I am not sure where life may take me, but I do hope it involves me having a successful career in the health communication field and an avid cyclist. However, I have a few very close friends that I consider to be like family, as well as two brothers who as far as I believe will probably procreate someday. Although this is hopefully years away, I am already super pumped and thrilled to become an aunt, and here is why.
I can spoil them as if they were my own children and make their birthdays and holidays special. Also, going to their homes on the holidays and special occasions will always be fun to get to know them and spend time together.
When their parents need a break from them, I get to spend time with them, but the second I want to return them, I can. It is like having children with no strings attached.
It will be so awesome to see my family's and friend's children and how they are alike and different from me, physically and emotionally.
There will always be a little someone for me to spend time with and learn from. Some say that children are some of the smartest and wisest on the planet and I will hopefully learn so much from these little miracles.
If we live close enough, I can bring them around and help their parents out. This can include sleepovers at Aunt Danielle's house, impromptu hang outs and if they ever need advice or just to talk. Being close with their parents will also be special for story time and creating new memories.
I am really looking forward to being the best aunt that I can be and although it is far away, I hope that I can touch my future nieces' and nephews' lives as much as they will touch mine.
