Don't Ruin Your Own College Experience

Just don't do it.

Don't Ruin Your Own College Experience
Thought Catalog.

I hate when I see people complaining about how much they hate college. I get it, it's not easy like high school was, but it's still fun. If you choose to hate college then oh well, but maybe you should loosen up and have fun.

1. Forget high school.

I'm not one to really talk about this one, but I'll try my best. When I first came to college I missed high school so much. It was always on my mind and because of that my first couple months weren't that great. But I got over it. I made friends and branched out and it soon became the best decision I could've made. So when you go to college, forget about high school and focus on your new experiences.

2. Don't go in with a negative mind.

Don't go into school thinking about how much work it'll be or how early you have to get up. Think about your new friends, new professors, new locations for some students. Think about all the fun you'll have and all of the first experiences. Think about positive things.

3. Do not go home every weekend.

I know that you have parents, and siblings, and girlfriends/boyfriends, but do not go home every weekend. You are paying to live on campus which means that you are paying for all the fun stuff that they do, but you're missing it. The movies and dances, you pay for those, but you'll never experience them. Don't go home every weekend, don't do it.

4. Choose a major based on your passions, not what will make you money.

I chose a major based on what will make me money and what will be needed when I graduate. Granted I do like my major, but it isn't my dream job. Do what you want. You want to fly planes? Do it. Do you want to be a doctor? Do it. Do whatever makes you happy.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
