Let me just put it out here that I don't like Ross. Among many things, he's a borderline toxic moron with the most fragile masculinity who doesn't deserve half the women he's dated. There are so many flaws to his character that at times you love to hate him and sometimes you really, really hate him. However, this was one of the only Ross moments I couldn't really judge him on because I've also been there.
In case you've lived under a rock and have no idea what I'm talking about: In Season 10 Episode 2 of 'Friends,' "The One Where Ross is Fine,"Ross invites Rachel and Joey over for dinner with Joey's ex, Charlie, after accidentally witnessing the two kissing. Thanks to all the dating history between Ross and Rachel, Ross handles the news badlyand he shows it at the disastrous dinner party.
He single-handily drinks at least three pitchers of margaritas, burns the crap out of his hand taking fajitas out of the oven, gives a drunk speech and struggles to keep a straight face all at once. Whenever one of the group asks him about it, he replies with "I'm fine." He does this at least 9 times during the entire episode, and if that's not a damn mood, IDK what is.
If you are an avid fan of "Friends," you've witnessed plenty of classic Ross moments such as the "we were on a break" argument, the inner nerd and the fact that he is the literal butt of nearly every joke. This isn't really anything new.
Yet, it has to be one of the funniest parts of the show because it's so damn relatable.
We've all done dumb s**t when we're drunk like hidden away our feels and replaced them with shots of Fireball, then fallen face-first into a Chalupa Cravings Box at 3 a.m. in the morning. I'm sure many of you have also said dumb stuff while drunk and hopefully have maintained your relationship to those witnesses.
Just the way that Ross clearly loses control of the evening, the more he drinks his feelings and dead-ass lies so he won't ruin the mood for his friends, it's like a mirror image of every time I break my own heart by crushing on someone way out of my league and will fake my happiness because I don't wanna ruin someone's birthday party.
I think we've all judged Ross a little too quickly, the man clearly makes a valid point and I feel for him trying to be supportive while he suffers over a pitcher of margarita mix.
If you've ever thought about yourself as someone like Rachel or Joey, you might just be denying your inner Ross, margarita meltdown and all.
