To My Roommate, Thank You For Being The Best
Katarina Hojohn

Dear Sweet Roomie,

I don’t know what I did to deserve such an amazing roommate as you. Every day, no matter what happens, I know at least my mornings and nights will be filled with joy. You make our tiny space feel like home, you make college not so crappy, and you make my life a happier place.

Thank you for being my go-to gal for anything from a shoulder to cry on to a dinner buddy to basically my mom. I know that no matter what you’ve got my back and you bet your full moon I got yours too. There isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for you, I hope you know that. I don’t think I could have done half the things I do if I didn’t have you as my right-hand gal through it all.

College is stressful and scary, and I don’t think I could be getting through this first semester if it wasn’t for your companionship and encouragement.

Thank you for putting up with me, I know I can be quite a handful. You somehow have this quality about you that makes me feel normal and sane even though we both know I’m not!! I love that we both make each other laugh till we fall off our beds (don’t loft your beds' kids) and we always find ways to have fun even in the worst of situations (TBT to the blackout *cries*).

From my *apparent* sleepwalking to my strange habits and of living life, you accommodate it all and make me feel like it’s totally normal. I can tell you truly care about me, and I hope you know how much I care about you.

Thank you for taking care of me when I’m sick and kicking me in the butt with your tough love when I’m being dramatic. And of course, thank you for listening to me, because I talk too much and I’m glad you’re always there to listen.

The best part of living with you, I think, is that I don’t feel like I’m just coexisting with you. I can honestly say I’m living with my best friend. You bring me so much joy every day I can’t imagine my college experience without you.

I probably sound cliche and basic, but you’ve helped me realize who I really am and actually love who I’ve become. No amount of thank-yous can express how thankful I am for that.

And most of all, thank you for just being you. You make me laugh till I cry and keep me grounded and sane. You are such a beautiful and amazing human being I don’t even have words to describe how magnificent of a person you are. You inspire me to be open-minded and kind-hearted in everything I do. You are going to accomplish so many amazing things in life and you are a truly incredible gal.

I’m so glad I know you, and I am literally happier than a clam that you are my roommate. I wouldn’t trade you or our roomie-ship for anything in the world. I can’t wait for our next adventure or the rest of our time in school! Keep being you!

Love,

Your Peach Ring

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
