Ronald Acuna Jr., one of the youngest players in all of the MLB, has recently set a Major League record. In the Atlanta Braves' recent series against the Miami Marlins, Acuna Jr. has been hot in his newly secured leadoff position. In the past five games, Acuna Jr. has had a home run, making him the youngest player in the league to accomplish this. Three of those five home runs came in the leadoff spot, setting the offensive game in motion for the team.
At only 20 years old, Acuna Jr. is on the fast-track to stardom lacking only three more consecutive home runs to tie the all-time record for the league. The record stands at eight consecutive home runs held by some of the best of all time such as Ken Griffey Jr. and Don Mattingly.
It is not only Acuna Jr.'s age that makes his standout statistics so impressive but simply his demeanor and attitude on the field. Acuna Jr. plays with the grace of a seasoned player but incorporates the intense energy of a young player that the Braves club needs to be successful. Nearing the All-Star break, Acuna Jr. was not living up to the standards he set before the break at the plate. However, 12 of his 19 home runs this season have come after the break, right when the Braves needed it revealing depth and maturity of the player.
There is a correlation between the Braves' success and the success of their young starters at the plate. It has been said time and time again that the results players such as Acuna Jr. and Albies produce at the plate often determine the results of the rest of the team's starters. When the young players bring their energy and aggressiveness, the Braves are really a team to be talked about.
During their series against the Miami Marlins, the Atlanta Braves have again taken the first place spot in the National League. Coincidence that this occurs right as Acuna Jr. is hitting as well as he has all year? I don't think so.
