The first trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story premiered during the Olympic games from Rio on NBC Thursday night. This film is the first spinoff for Star Wars.
Darth Vader, the biggest villain in Star Wars history, made a brief appearance in Disney’s new Star Wars trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. It was the first glimpse fans have had since Revenge of the Sith which came out in 2005.
Star Wars Celebration fan expo took place last month where a behind the scenes reel of the new movie was shown. However, Lucasfilm decided not to release the same clip showed at the expo giving the guests their own special sneak peek.
The two-minute-long trailer takes place before Star Wars. So that means that this film takes place before A New Hope that came out in 1977, where Darth Vader was the main focus and the Death Star was in construction. During the teaser it is visible that the Stormtroopers, Star Destroyers and the Death Star have its original design which can give the audience nostalgia to the original 1970s films.
Toward the end of the trailer, Felicity Jones’ character says, "This is our chance to make a real difference," before facing a TIE fighter.
The screen is then cut to Darth Vader for about half a second, showing him from behind. Of course he doesn’t say anything, but you can hear his iconic breathing as the the screen cuts to black leaving all the viewers with chills.
The film premieres only one year after Star Wars: The Force Awakens came out in theaters. Star Wars fans or not, everyone went to go see it. The film ended up one of the most successful movies in box office sales history. One can only imagine how successful the next film will be, especially with the appearance of Darth Vader influencing viewers to go watch it.
Star Wars: Rogue One is definitely one of the biggest films people are looking forward to in 2016. Unfortunately for them, they will have to wait until the end of the year.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story premieres in theaters on Dec. 16.
