Choice. We’re expected to choose the right path to follow from the day we’re born. There are so many different choices. Some are simple choices such as what to wear or what to eat for breakfast. But other decisions can affect the outcome of our lives; our overall happiness. It's these harder decisions that I just generally do not understand and I’m genuinely afraid to make. Why do we have to choose? Why can’t we have the best of both worlds? Or neither world? Why do we have to choose one thing over another when we know that inevitably our choice will either hurt or help us, and we don’t know which one it will be when we make the choice?
I understand that eventually we have to choose something. I understand that we do have to make choices if we don't want life to pass us by. But I believe, I have to believe, (as choice relates to guys) that sometimes we don’t have to choose, that sometimes we can have both guys or sometimes we can decide to have neither guy. The problem with choosing one thing over another is that we are afraid of getting hurt by our decisions, and ultimately we would have no one to blame but ourselves because we made the choice. I watched a movie recently that said, “Every path you take leads to another choice, and some choices change everything.” That is what terrifies me the most about making a choice: the fact that it could change everything, that inevitably my choice could cause more pain than help.
So if we pick both worlds, we won’t get hurt... Right?
But that's the thing about choice, it won't allow you to sit back and never choose a path. Right or wrong, we have to pick a path and later on, we have to pick another branch to follow. We don't get the luxury of sitting back and having someone make our choices for us or even having the best of both worlds, I want to believe we can put off the choice and eventually we won't have to make one but I've come to realize that that's just not how it works. And maybe I have a lot of choices to make before classes start back up but It doesn't scare me as much as it used to because I know that more choices will come my way and life will keep unfolding.
