Road to Getting Back to College

For My College Students Moving Back on Campus, I Know Your Pain...

Road to Getting Back to College

Tomorrow is the day I go back to school. This has been a summer not to forget. This was the first summer after my first year of college, the first summer I spent interning and lastly, this is the first summer I spent working multiple summer jobs. It feels like the summer was short because I'll be moving back on campus tomorrow with classes starting on Monday but it's been a long time thinking about the events that occurred this summer. I've been very busy traveling to many places. Getting back to school, I'm going to have new goals, new tasks, responsibilities, and I am going to be more active on campus which I'm going to find interesting because my first year in College I didn't really do much but go to class and party. This year is going to be really different for me and I know I'm going to be doing less partying as I am preparing to enter real life and a career, starting anew and opening more doors. But before I can prepare for a new start in my new life in the real world, I have to be prepared to move in tomorrow.

I started preparing for school in the second week on August. I started researching the books I'll need for my classes for fall semester and everything was fine until I saw the rental price for one of my books. My Organizational Behavior class book costs $135 just to rent it. To buy the book, it costs $349. This is the most expensive book I had to rent. Last year, the most I had to spend to rent a book was $50. That's an $85 difference. The most I had to spend to buy a book was $200 and that was for Business Management. That's an $149 difference if I was to buy the Organizational Behavior which is something I am not going to do. But the prices don't even stop there. For my Principles of Accounting class, it costs $268 to buy it, no rental option. For my Pre-Calculus class, it costs $166 to buy it, no rental option. Luckily, someone gave it to me for free my freshmen year and I held on to it. For my African Studies class, it cost $17 to rent it so that's definitely a go. So the total can come to $420. That's way out of my budget and cost a lot more than I thought. If I didn't have that math book, and I had to buy it, my total would be $586. I definitely wouldn't of bought that book either way.

For my first year at Bloomfield College, I didn't have all my books. I damn near didn't have any. I made a lot of friends and did a lot of networking which helped me get people to help me. In return, I helped them with anything and was an excellent friend. So networking is the key to surviving in and out of school. But my second semester I was prepared and helped people out.

But I'm moving in tomorrow so I had to get new stuff to move in with. In the third week of August I went shopping for my school supplies. I got pencils, pens, a stapler, notebooks, notepads, sticky notes, etc. In my fourth and last week of August. I went room shopping, food shopping, and went to back and forth to financial aid to make sure I'm cleared to move in. This last week of summer was stressful. I was getting up early every morning, staying out all day, and always carrying something inside the house when I came back hours later. Money went so fast to the point that I don't know how I'm going to survive the first week back to school. But I had to do what I had to do to be ready for school and I thank my mom for all her help. I still have to get my books, but now I have to just get my stuff inside the car and be ready to move in August 28. Wish me luck and good luck to those who's moving in on campus this week or soon.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
