When I was growing up one of my favorite things to read were the Archie Comics I loved getting to know about Archie Andrews and his friends who all lived in the town of Riverdale. I loved how there was his best friend Jughead Jones, his friend and rival Reggie Mantle, then you had Betty Cooper and Veronica Lodge who both had a thing for Archie. Sadly, he always seemed more smitten with rich girl Veronica. I read the comics all throughout high school and always hoped for a show which would be outside of the cartoon version. Why am I bringing this up all these memories about Archie and my love of the comics you may be asking?
It is due to the CW’s new must-see show, Riverdale which takes a much rather different approach to the comic book and creates a darker side to this town and the characters. It deals with secrets and murder and each week there seems to be more to uncover from Archie and his gang. I think this show appeals to a larger audience than just the younger generation.
Not since Supernatural which is among one of the best shows on the CW and The Vampire Diaries has one show cause so much anticipated and been praised by critics. The key element is how this town of Riverdale who is thought of as perfect has so much to hide.
It does not hurt that it has all the characters from Archie, Betty, Jughead, Moose, Reggie, Josie and the Pussycats, Cheryl Blossom, Ms, Grundy (nothing like the old Ms. Grundy). In addition, Luke Perry AKA Dylan Mckay bad boy of Beverly Hills 90210 has been cast as Archie's Dad. Those who remember this show will soon see Luke Perry take on a much different role now that he is older.
The first show was on Thursday and I have to admit it does not disappoint. It has all the elements of a much darker side of each of the beloved characters in a more modern view of what we read in the comics. Each character has a story to tell while dealing with a murder of one of their own a classmate named Jason. When he turns up dead the mystery surrounding his death is one that will involve the entire town included the students at the local high school.

Riverdale is a must-see show and I hope you will tune in because just when you think things can't get more complicated they do. If you are thinking this is the same gang of the comic strip think again? There's more than meets the eye...
