RIP To These 13 New Year’s Resolutions We Now Know Are Basically Impossible

We are almost one month into the new year. One month into our New Year's resolutions. Some of us might be having great success with our resolutions, while others (like myself) have fallen behind or have given up completely. No shame in that, resolutions are tough. Here are some New Year's resolutions that we made, and now know are impossible to stick with. And some tips for a modified version of the resolutions if you're still dedicated to the resolution.

1. Going the gym every day.

Seemed like a good idea January 1st, but it ended up being extremely difficult due to the time commitment.

Tip: Go three times a week, at the same exact time, creating a habit.

2. Keeping a journal.

This can be something that is easily forgotten about.

Tip: Write before you go to bed. It can be short and simple.

3. Dieting.

Suddenly cutting out all this food you eat is extremely hard, especially if you have never dieted before.

Tip: Eliminate only a few food items and replace them with healthier options.

4. Drinking less coffee/pop.

If caffeine is your main source of energy, this may actually affect your mental health, making it even more difficult to stick with this resolution.

Tip: Limit yourself to one cup of coffee or one can of pop once a day until you can slowly get yourself off of it.

5. Keeping room clean.

Honestly, if you're busy and always in a rush, this is one hard. Sometimes it's just easier to throw your things on the floor.

Tip: Dedicate a day or time to clean up your dorm/apartment/house/etc.

6. Not using a cell phone as often.

This is hard because everything we do is on our cell phones.

Tip: Delete apps that are distracting or limit yourself to your phone during your free time

7. Watching less Netflix.

Netflix is such a great way to unwind after a long day. Or it's great to binge-watch your favorite shows.

Tip: Watch only one episode a day

8. Studying every day.

Everyone's brain has a studying max. Especially after a long day.

Tip: Study on the days you have a lot of free time.

9. Not spending as much money.

We have money and we want to spend it. Whether it is because your favorite band is going on tour or you've found the perfect pair of shoes, money just goes out the window.

Tip: Make a budget plan and stick to it.

10. Dressing nicely.

Who even owns enough nice clothes to look nice every day?!

Tip: Dress up once or twice a week at least.

11. Go to bed earlier.

Ha, we want to go to bed early, yet we lie there awake on our phones for hours until it's the usual time we go to bed.

Tip: Put down the phone earlier in the night.

12. Wake up earlier.

That snooze button has been getting more use than normal.

Tip: This one is on you. You just need to force yourself to get moving and it will soon become a habit.

13. De-clutter/organize your things

You probably kept this one for a couple days, then it got too complicated and it was easier to toss your things around.

Tip: Another one you just have to continue to do and make it a habit.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
