There is this special feeling you get when you are a part of a group. Especially if you are a part of a good group where everyone gets along and there is minimal drama. Minimal only because we are humans and have bad days, so it can't be nonexistent. Yeah, we have our friend groups, but just like with siblings you need time when you are with a different group.
This year I am a senior in college and I graduate in about five weeks. Looking back at some of my best memories, they all involve a group. A lot of my best moments have come from dance class and Orchesis (a college dance club). I have been in Orchesis all four years of college, every term one and two, and when there was any Orchesis events during term three, I was also there. I have basically worked with the same group of people for quite a few routines. It's so cool how we may not be friends and hang out, but we have a bond that is similar. We all know each other's strengths and weaknesses. We know if we miss a rehearsal who is in the routine and who we can contact and ask to go over things with. We also work fast and move as one. We all knew our potential and encouraged each other to be our best. I am sure people feel the same with the people on their sports teams or people in the same club as you or even a class. When I was in AP Spanish there were only four of us (me and two boys, plus the teacher). We were very different from each other and were in different friend groups and sports teams. But when we were in class together it was like we were a family. I am an only child and during that year I took that class I felt like I finally had brothers. I mean, have you ever had a class where the teacher and the other students surprised you with flowers and a card for your opening night of a performance? That was one of the first times I had ever cried because I was moved and filled with joy. People in theatre know all about comradery.
Acting usually requires you to get out of your comfort zone, and many different types of people participate in theatre. So it's important that your cast has natural chemistry and works well as a team. You work for long periods of time and the best shows are when everyone is on point. I am in a play this term that is very different from any I've been in. It has been so great to get back on stage. To see everyone band together and bond is so amazing. And to be a part of that bonding experience is even better.
I hope everyone who reads this can think of a group that has touched them or helped make them be the person that they are today. I hope if you haven't had this experience yet, that you do get the chance. The rush you get is one of the best.
