Before I begin, I want to state now that there are spoilers throughout this article, so if you are planning on seeing the movie and want to be surprised, DO NOT keep reading.
Alright for those of you that I still have with me lets talk about "Pitch Perfect 2," shall we? I've seen it two times in the past two days, so I would say that I am pretty psyched to write this article about it. Being an avid "Pitch Perfect" fan, I could barely contain my excitement when hearing that "Pitch Perfect 2" was going to come out. I patiently waited and waited until I finally got the date for the movie release and was upset to find that it came out during finals week. Of ALL weeks, it had to be finals week?
But of course, I still went. And all I have to say is it. was. awesome. I can confidently say that I am the biggest "Pitch Perfect" fan I know—I'm talking, I listen to the Pitch Perfect radio every time I work out and quote the movie on a daily basis type of fans—so, "Pitch Perfect 2" had to bring its A-game if it wanted to impress me because I had very high hopes and expectations for it.
Not only did it meet those expectations, it exceeded them. I would even go as far as saying the sequel is better than the first movie. The German group, Das Sound Machine, was absolutely incredible and so entertaining, and each performance was bigger and better than the last.
One of my favorite parts of the movie had to be the revised version of the "Riff Off" from the first movie. This had five talented groups, including the Green Bay Packers, singing songs one after another to different categories. There were plenty of other talented performances that kept me at the edge of my seat with an open jaw, such as a DSM performance at a car show, and of course an emotional and heartwarming ending performance from the Bellas with all of their past Bellas. These performances were nothing short of five-star and were a huge step up from the first movie.
Not only that, the movie was also hilarious. Fat Amy stole the show with all of her clever and witty statements and her funny, yet sensitive, performance while trying to win Bumper back after the Bella's retreat. I couldn't stop laughing throughout the whole movie, and the theater was belting out laughs the whole time alongside me.
Now, I am not saying that this movie was perfect. It did have some quirks, but I think that is what makes it Pitch Perfect. Both movies are fresh and cut from the same awkward cloth, and it makes a funny and real atmosphere for the audience. I would highly recommend it and plan on seeing it a third, maybe fourth time in theaters. Definitely worth the money if you are looking for a good laugh!
And let's not pretend to notice that there were definitely some hints to a third movie that they directors added with the new legacy character. Can't wait to see what that entails!
