Joyful Noise is a fantastic movie filled with humor, hate, and love. It is a religious comedy. The three most famous actors who star in this movie are Queen Latifah, Dolly Parton, and Keke Palmer. Personally, my favorite actress in that list is Keke Palmer. She starred in True Jackson, VP. That show helped me get through middle school. Anyway, this movie is about a choir master passing away at a church. Then G.G Sparrow (Dolly Parton) and Vi Rose Hill (Queen Latifah) apply for the choir master position. Vi Rose gets the position, which causes a tension between Vi Rose and G.G. Yet, G.G remains a member of the choir. This creates even more drama because Vi Rose enjoys more original religious music, while G.G enjoys newer music. They both want to have the choir sing their music.
The choir has to win a competition to get the financial support from the minister to go to the finals. That is the only way the choir will be saved. Otherwise, it will be shut down. The choir does not win, but G.G gets ordained online so that the choir is able to participate in the finals.
While that is going on, Olivia Hill (Keke Palmer) is interested in Randy Garrity, who lives with G.G Sparrow. Vi Rose, Olivia’s mom, does not like Randy initially because of him living with G.G. Yet Olivia and Randy are in love. There are many plots in this film.
Joyful Noise shows just how important music and faith are. They are both life-changing. One of the characters in this movie, Walter Hill, is inspiring and I can relate to him. He deals with autism. Walter questions his religion, his faith in God. I am visually impaired. I also am a cancer survivor. Walter and I both face adversity. I know that I have questioned God at times, but that’s normal.
While Joyful Noise is classified as a comedy, I don’t think it is. It’s a religious drama. It is a fantastic film that teaches the viewer about loving each other no matter what. It’s similar to Romeo and Juliet. Here are some of my favorite quotes from Joyful Noise:
1) "You better treat my snorin' like a Marvin Gaye song.”
2) “People who ain't around much tend to make fewer mistakes!
3) “Quit it with those nails, Edward Scissorhands.”
Yes, the rivalry between G.G and Val Hill is quite real. In the end though, the two women become friends. I love Joyful Noise because of its innocence. Also, the comedic parts are slim, but that’s what gives the film comic relief. If you are looking for a fabulous movie to watch on the weekend, this is it! Get some pizza, chill, and watch Joyful Noise. I promise you that it will be worth it. You will be joyful!
