A Review Of The Intern

I recently attended the movies with the rest of my chapter to see the new Ann Hathaway movie, The Intern.

First I would like to say that I highly suggest chapter nights out to the movies. It's my favorite night of the year every year. You get to chat and see girls you don't always get to see outside of chapter meetings during the week and that's always rad. You also get to experience something all together, even if it is just the mind-blown feeling you got at the end of Gone Girl.

Secondly, I'm so glad that we saw The Intern. I think there's never a bad time for a college student to see an inspirational movie. We all bust our buts all week between school and work and social involvement. Sometimes it's good to just sit and zone out on a happy, hopeful movie for a few hours.

All in all, it was a fabulously light and heartwarming story. There was so much girl power that I just wanted to run home and burn all of my bras and throw my make up bag off the rooftop of our apartment complex. Jules Ostin, played by Ann Hathaway, really made me believe that I could have it all.

The movie opens by allowing the viewers to get to know Ben, a retired widower who is bored out of his mind. There's only so much time you can spend in a coffee shop or at yoga in the park. One day Ben sees a flyer seeking Senior Interns for the online clothing store, About The Fit. He takes a chance and sends in a video application. The next day he receives a call asking him to come in for an interview.

The movie then switches to the clothing company, started and owned by Jules Ostin (Ann Hathaway). Jules started the company in her kitchen and it exploded over the course of only 18 months. She is a very busy woman who doesn't waste one second of her day. She doesn't even spend the extra time walking around the office - she rides a bike!

Ben does really well at his interview and gets the internship. He is assigned to shadow Jules, who is extremely reluctant to have one more thing to worry about. She fits him in for a five minute meeting and lets him know he will not have much to do.

Fortunately however, Ben impressed the whole office, from the other interns all the way up to Jules. He eventually becomes like a personal assistant to the founder and they become great friends.

Jules suddenly seems to start losing her powerful grip on everything in her life. Her relationship with her husband is falling apart and she doesn't get to spend nearly as much time with her daughter as she would like. Her husband begins an affair with another mom at their daughter's school. Her vice president encourages her to hire a CEO.

Thankfully, Jules has Ben to look out for her. He supports her working mother lifestyle because he knows that she is incredibly talented and that she adores her job. He knows that she doesn't need a CEO, she just needs a more stable relationship. He helps her discover all of these things.

In the end, Jules does not hire a CEO and is able to begin mending her relationship with her husband when he realizes, apologizes, and revokes his recently rash ways.

In the end, Jules proves to all women, and even men, that a woman can have it all and still enjoy her life. A woman can be a mom and a CEO and a lovely role model all at the same time.

I give this movie two thumbs up!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
