The end of fall semester brings a drop in temperatures and signals winter is almost here.
It is time to swap out the flip flops and sandals for our beloved boots and Uggs, and pull out the collection of sweaters and scarves we can’t wait
to wear.
Yet, the end
of fall does not just mean braving the cold and endless exams before winter break, it is reveal season for the Greeks in the Multicultural Greek Council
(MGC) and National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC). Now is the time to dust off the
line jackets and get ready to see and meet the newest members of each organization.
If you have not
been to one yet, here is a list of some of the top items you can spot people
wearing at a reveal.
Letters everywhere. Between that sorority or fraternity’s
wooden letters on display, everywhere you look you will find people sporting
huge letters. Reveals are the time to show off that new gear and rep your
sorority or fraternity to show your support. So, for the rest of the Greeks
outside the MGC, come prepared and wear letters.
Line jackets. The most popular choice to wear. They
are our version of the signature PC anorak, or typical frat tanks. For big
events like reveals, it is only right to roll out in line jackets. You can
probably spot each and every one of our organizations by these lettered jackets. They are
custom ordered downtown at One Greek Store (OGS), and no two are exactly identical
with the number of options and designs.
They are pricey, but you can always continue adding to it over the years.
Line jackets stay timeless. Alphas always come back wearing theirs from the
years they were active. Besides
Greek letters, the front, back, and sleeves are embroidered with nicknames,
number, pledge year, class name or theme, names of pledge brother or sisters as
well as program educators. Reveals are commonly at outdoor spaces, so they are
great for the colder weather and rain.
Tikis, dog tags, bags, and more. While double lettering is an absolute
no-no, accessories normally don’t count towards the rule. In addition to line
jackets, fan favorites include lavalieres and the standard lettered tote bags.
Tikis are wooden lettered necklaces, and dog tags stamped with crests or
letters are also common. Line jackets themselves are already a lot going on. If
you are looking to make a more subtle statement, just throw on a few of these
accessories and leave the jacket at home.
The next
time you walk by anyone wearing the above, you know it is reveal season for
these Greeks. Join them and show your sorority or fraternity letters at their
shows!
